Cramps before bowel movements

I am currently 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant with my second. I have been experiencing some painful cramps right before I pass gas or use the bathroom. (Never when I pee though). Some times the cramps are mild, but some times they are pretty intense. They go away right after I pass the gas or go to the bathroom, so I am not too worried about it.
My first appointment is tomorrow to draw blood, find an exact due date, and discuss family history.
I was going to mention it to the doctor but I don't see much to worry about because I am not spotting or anything. I never had this pain with my first, so I'm just curious if it's normal with a second.

Anyone else experiencing the same?

Re: Cramps before bowel movements

  • Is it like shooting pains? If so, yes I have experienced that and it hurts!

  • The cramping it starts as a regular cramp, but it will get intense real fast. It's like a jabbing pain, that sometimes makes me double over in pain.
But as soon as I pass the gas, it goes away. There's no spotting. I didn't experience any spotting with this pregnancy, like I did with my first.
  • Yea I get the same feeling...I got it when I wasn't pregnant also :-?
  • In having this also, along with some constipation :(
  • I knew to expect some cramps and some constipation, but this pregnancy seems to be a little more intense than my first.
Maybe it's because I'm paying more attention to everything, as my husband and I were trying for this pregnancy. (My first was unexpected).
But my cramping is intense and painful! I was just wondering if I was the only one, or if it was normal.
  • I also have this. It's very soon after I eat. I assumed it was because I have Crohn's and no longer have a gallbladder.....
  • I have had this with all my pregnancies. They are sympathetic contractions, I mostly got them if I had bad diarrhea or something like that (often due to being fructose intolerant). Kinda like how if you're overdue they say to drink castor oil - it causes diarrhea, which can cause sympathetic contractions and pushes you into labor. Don't worry though! It can't happen this early :D

  • Sometimes It almost felt like contractions but it's been 3 years since I had my son. So I thought that I was over reacting.
    Thank you for the information.
  • Please lurk, there have been lots of cramping posts within the last couple days.
