NST

Just curious all those who have to have NST's... How many times a week do you have to go?

I have GD, diet controlled, and with this new hospital I have to go twice a week. Three years ago, when I was pregnant with my daughter and on insulin, I only had to go once a week.

Just curious what others have to do...

Re: NST

So far, though, they've taken 2 hrs, 2 hrs, and 3 hrs.

Once a week. I am not diabetic though. High risk for other reasons.

Thanks ladies! Interesting to see how it varies hospital to hospital. Hope you're all feeling well!
  • I have to go twice a week (Tuesdays & Fridays). High risk because of SVT and high blood pressure. Usually takes an hour.
  • I go once a week for high bp, no gd. usually lasts about 30-45 minutes I drink of or eat something before to get the baby up and moving. I've gone for 4 weeks or so.
  • I get NST once a week. I'm having twins and they usually only take 20-30 min. They cooperate for that but not the sonograms for pictures!
  • NST 1x/wk..., 2x if baby doesn't pass her BPP's earlier in the week.

Right now I'm set up to have a weekly BPP/Growth Scan (started at 32 weeks) and a dr. visit. If babe doesn't pass her BPP, my OB will send me over for an NST. Otherwise I go in every Friday for NST's.

I have GD. Glyburide at night and before lunch.

  • Twice a week - GD, Glyburide at night.

If I was not prescribed the glyburide I would only have to go once a month, but because they had to put me on medication they want to see me twice a week for the NST and once a week for an US.
  • I have one on Friday for high bp. But this week I got diagnosed with gd, 37 weeks today, so I wonder if that means I will have 2 next week or they will induce.

I had type 1 diabetes before the pregnancy, but I have had nst's twice a week since 32 weeks.
  • They wanted me to do twice a week starting at 30 weeks but I fought it and I'm only doing once a week. I have gestational hypertension diagnosed at 26 weeks, but it is being well managed with meds. My NSTs consistently last the minimum 20 minutes which, to me, proves I was right about not needing this twice-weekly business.

  • My babe has an abnormality in her umbilical cord, so her s/d ratio is high. I go in 1x wk for NST and ultrasound. So far it's taken about an hour for each NST plus 15-30 min for the ultrasound.
  • I FINALLY had an NST today that only took 35 minutes! With my long 2+ hour ones, I think they weren't getting the sensors in the right place. At one appointment, I think they forgot about me for 45 minutes, all of which one baby wasn't recording. (Not because of a problem, because the sensor was in the wrong place).
  • I'm getting my first tomorrow due to some risks to the baby's heart bc of my AI disease. I hope it doesn't take that long! My baby tends to move around a lot. Does that help make it go quicker?

Moving baby is a good thing because they are looking to see how the heart rate reacts to movements. But in my case, moving was bad because it was harder for the nurses to find (and keep) the heart rate on the monitor.

I don't think they've been doing NSTs at my dr's office for that long, so I'm not sure the nurses were that familiar with getting them set up correctly. And for me, with twins, they had 2 monitors to get right. I've switched to getting them done at l&d which has sped things up A LOT.
  • Twice a week for Me I have gestational hypertension and GD. My appts are long though after Nst it's an ultrasound to check My fluid levels
  • I go every Friday and started at 31 weeks because I have to be on a blood thinning medication because I have a clotting disorder. Usually takes less than an hour depending on if the LO is being a brat :)
