Preparing for breast feeding

I have read up on the things you need for breastfeeding. One thing I was unsure about is nipple or breast shields. Should I buy some before baby comes or just wait to see if I need them? We took a class but these were never mentioned.

I wouldn't, and am not planning to. I dont know many breastfeeding moms personally that have used them.

The hospital gave me one for each kid. They will know if you need it or not.

I wouldn't. You may not need them.

I think most moms only need them if baby doesn't learn to latch well or if mom has really flat/inverted nipples.

I'm using them and they've been great, but I got them from the hospital.

They have some at the hospital that they can give you, but wouldn't suggest using them for the long term as it seemed to decrease my milk supply with my first.
