Allergy Medicine

hi! I am a little over 5 weeks. Allergy season has begun and I cannot breathe. My doctor said to use either Zyrtec or plain Claritan. Not Claritan-D. I'm still not sure how I feel about taking this. Has anyone taken either of these in previous pregnancies? Need advice.

Re: Allergy Medicine

  • I'm taking Claritin now, only when I feel like I really need it. DH is a pharmacist and says they're class B medicines, which means that they have been tested in animal studies and no adverse affects to pregnancies have been shown. In the end, it's more than likely perfectly safe, but as with any medicine, there is always a chance.. which is why I only take it when I feel like I absolutely need it.

    Yes it's ok to take.
  • I'm the allergy sufferer to end all allergy sufferers.  My doctor said Zyrtec is OK, as is Claritin (which doesn't do a damn thing for me).

She also said Benedryl is totally safe for baby.
  • I have a prescription for Flonaise.  It works wonders with my allergies.  You can now buy it over the counter. :)  Also used it with my first pregnancy.

  • I have taken Benadryl every night because my sneezing fits start then.

My doctor said Claritin during the day, and  Benadryl during the night. I try to only use it when I really need it.

  • I talked to my doctor about this. He said I could take any over the counter allergy medication. I am choosing to take it only when it is really bad. But my doctor seems to think it safe to take any kind of allergy medication as needed.
