FVL and lovenox question!

hey ladies! I have FVL and an on lovenox injections - nothing new to me as I had a massive DVT when I was 17 and had to do the injections for 8 month (warfarin made me sick of course). Now I'm pregnant I'm back on lovenox (yay!) and am wondering if anyone has blood work done to make sure the medicine is working properly! Before when I was on it, I had blood work done weekly but my primary care this time told me it's not necessary. He also told me "make sure to ask your OB because nothing came up about this in my medical research" which leads me to believe he's never dealt with this before. Before I ask my OB, I just wanted to see what everyone else's experiences has been!

So did your doctor send you for blood work while on lovenox injections? If so, how often? Thank you in advance!!!

Re: FVL and lovenox question!

  • I have been on lovenox since I found out I was pregnant at seven weeks. I am now 31 weeks pregnant and my OB never tested my blood since I've been on lovenox. I've never been told of a reason to test it.

  • I am also on Lovenox. You don't have to get your blood levels checked because the shot works with your body and thins out your blood. When we had to do it before when we had the clots they wanted to make sure we were thin because the clot just happened. This time it's preventative and you will be thinned out so a clot won't happen.

I'm also on Lovenox for FVL and pregnancy. I'm 10w2d and haven't been checked once yet, but I am seeing a hematologist this week at my OB's request to make sure all is checking out ok. I'm not sure if he will want to do additional blood work or testing.

  • I'm on Lovenox for FVL and a protein S deficiency. They test my blood once a month to make sure the level is right and to check a platelet count. I think the test is called anti Xa.
