Great thread! With my first I was SLEEPING with NO SIGN at all that day that he may make his appearance other than I was 2 days late. I wasn't dilated at all the previous appointment. I walked 3 miles and ate some spicy chili. I woke up around 230/3 with some pain. I remember laying there for a minute or two trying to figure out if it was a dream; then the next contraction came! I shook my hubby and said this feels way different!! I think this is it! Timed it for 45 minutes and headed into the hospital! I was 4 cm dilated. Giovani was born that day at 1:11pm.
Now I'm waiting patiently on the arrival of my new gal pal. 37 weeks!
I had just finished teaching my last class of the semester and had been on my feet all day.
I took a shower and crawled into bed.
The minute I put my head down on the pillow and closed my eyes... My water broke big time!
I yelled to my husband in the other room, "Run! Bring a towel... we need to get to the hospital!' (I was terrified!)
(No need to have rushed to the hospital so fast or been so worried. Everything was totally fine in the end despite my water breaking and I had DS 13 hours later).
With DS1 I was sitting in a recliner watching a crappy A&E made for TV movie when my water broke 5 days before due date. Contractions didnt start for 4 hours. My first thought was that I couldn't decide if I had peed my pants
This go around was the first time that I've actually gone into labor myself.
SO & I had just finished having sex and we were laying in bed talking about how my dr wouldn't induce me until 41 weeks. I felt a contraction, one that was different than the others I had been having for two weeks. So we started timing them. They went from 10 mins apart to 5 mins & super intense in two hours. So we called L&D and headed in. My first thought was that I didn't want to get my hopes up that it was actually labor because I had been so dissapointed at my dr app earlier that day.
I was at my mom's house. My husband and I where staying the night. And I woke up at 5 am with my back hurting. So I went to go lay in the bath tub . I started running my water and when I went to go sit down I felt the most horrible pain in my back and I started screaming. My husband and mother ran in and said what's wrong???? I said my effing back hurts!!! Got to the hospital and was dilated 3. Seven hours later she was in my arms.
Me and my husband were sitting down in our living at night just talking when I had felt like I peed a little so I went to the bathroom and realized that my water had broke. Contractions started right away with no slowing down. I went into labor and delivery at 10pm and was 5cm and by 11:50pm my baby girl was here. Everything for me happened very very fast.
I went to buy shoes so that I could handle working on my feet for five more weeks. As I took them off the shelf, my water broke. After a quick trip to the hospital, a helicopter ride, and a quick c-section (alone), my twins joined us at 34 weeks, only 4.5 hours after water breaking! Everyone is home from the NICU now and all is good.
It was about 9pm, and I was on the sofa, talking to my DH about what he wanted to do this weekend. I had a contraction that felt different (more like a strong menstrual cramp) and had a small amount of fluid leak right after. I immediately said that we might be having a baby this weekend, no need to make any plans:). Had baby the next morning.
I was waiting around to be called in for my induction because they were behind schedule, when I had some slight bleeding. On the way to the hospital to get checked out contractions hit hard and fast 2-3 minutes apart on a very long and bumpy ride. Got checked in and was at 4cm. No need for the induction after all! My stubborn little Taurus wanted to be in our arms already! 9 hours later I had her and there's no letting her go now!
It started the day before we had our first - I had Braxton hicks the whole day, very irregular, I'd have them a few an hour, then nothing for an hour. I did have some bloody show (we'd had sex the night before). Went to bed, and around 3:30am I woke to very mild contractions. Timed them for an hour, woke my husband at 4:30am & timed for another hour. They were coming ever 10 minutes. I decided to eat breakfast bc I knew they wouldn't feed me & I was starving.. I chose to stay at home until 6:00am bc it would take an hour to get there & I wanted to get there after the nurse shift change (7:00am). On the way in, I was nervous & excited.. My husband was just nervous. With the increase in bumps it pushed the contractions closer together. We checked into the hospital a little after 7 & our son joined us at 2:12pm. I'm hoping to make it to the hospital in time with this one... We moved & we're now over 2 hours away! I'm also hoping that I will have a whole day warning like I did with our son. In that case, we'll head to the city the night before!!
With DS 1 I had been having mild contractions all day at work never more than 15 min apart. ( I worked an 8.5 hour day) as soon as I got home my husband and I went for a walk. About 200 yards out of the drive way my water broke! 12 hours later Sebastian was born!
This time with DS 2. I woke up wide awake at 2am had my first contraction at 230am. Got to the hospital at 5:20 and Simon was born at 5:56!!! My water never broke with him at all and he was born in the amniotic sac! Quite crazy.
Very very different labors. Couldn't have been more opposite. 12 hours vs 3.5, posterior vs anterior, 1.5 hours of pushing vs. 25 minutes. Water broke right away vs water never broke. I liked the second much better!

I started losing bits of my mucous plug early in the week. At 37weeks on a Friday (I'm a teacher) I had the constant urge to pee so I had to call the office twice to watch my class while I peed. I also peed during every break that day. Around 2 o'clock I had some period like cramps and had to sit at .y desk until the bell rang. Friday evening my little man was kicking like crazy, I kept laughing thinking he's trying to kick his way out.
Saturday morning I woke up to my bloody show so I called L&D. They said not to come in until I'm in severe pain. Later that night little man was kicking away again. No pains or cramping that day.
Sunday morning we went to breakfast and the park. Still no pains or cramping. My husband and stepdaughter went to the Pol atound 3pm but DH insisted I stay inside because of the heat. They came back from the pool around 430. Little man was kicking away again. I really thought he was going to kick his way out. I had been laying on the couch watching TV and then all of a sudden, another big kick and water came gushing out! And it kept coming! Yelled to DH and he ran down the stairs and actually slid in the fluid that had poured on the floor.
We made it to L&D by 530 and they didn't believe I was in labor. In fact they questioned whether or not my water broke until I stood up out of the wheelchair and more water came gushing out. Still no pain! A few nurses were still questioning it since i wasnt in any pain.
When they hooked me up to the machines they were shocked to see that I was actually having contractions but no pain. Since little man was breech I had to have a c-section. I had eaten lunch around 230 so we had to wait until 8ish because the Anesthesiologist didn't wanna risk anything.
Had my spinal just after 8 and baby was out at 827!!
Love reading all these stories! Probably my favorite thread on here. Keep them coming ladys!
With my first, the day of my due date came, and not one contraction all day. I was upset and thought I was for sure going to be pregnant forever. I tried to rest all day, and went to bed that night thinking I was going to have to be induced. I woke up at 4:30 the next morning feeling like I had to go to the bathroom. I tried for about 45 mins just getting up trying to go to the bathroom and laying down. I finally woke up my husband at 5:30 and told him something wasn't right. The contentions hit fast and hard. I couldn't walk or talk in between them so we got in the car and headed to the hospital. At 11:42 my little girl was here!
Can't wait to see if this labor is going to be similar or completely different. I'm currently 37+1 Weeks
