Diaper bags

i can't find any diaper bags I like! I have bought maybe 8 of them, some
Online some in store and i check them out at home and end up not liking them!! I want and need a big one because as it is I carry a lot of stuff and with baby on his way I'll
Be carrying more. I'm not going cheap on them either, im looking at the 100-150 range!! Yesterday I bought a Michael kors
Tore, it's not a diaper bag but it's big... What are your thoughts on diaper bags and what is "needed" for a good one?

Re: Diaper bags

  • We have a Ju Ju Be the Be prepared and be right back. All I care is that it holds my crap diapers, wipes and thats about it. I don't bring the whole nursey with me.

  • I'm finding that I have the same problem.
I haven't bought any yet. But I'm not liking any of them. I'm really just thinking of buying a spacious tote bag. But I want the pockets on the side. Plus if it's too feminine my husband wont carry it lol. He won't even touch my purse. I don't know what to do either. :s I need to get one soon so I can pack it for the hospital
  • I LOVE it. I am not doing the traditional diaper bag look because I have a lot of big bags. Also, I don't want to carry around a diaper bag, I want to carry around a bag that looks good :) there are so many options out there though, that a lot of them don't really look like diaper bags. Anyways, I just got diaper bag inserts. I LOVE it :) I bought 2 and all it is, is a insert with pockets, like a bag organizer. And I am going to just put it in different bags :D then it looks like I have plenty ;) good luck on finding one!
  • Check out the Vera Bradley make a change diaper bag. Online :)

I got a pottery barn classic diaper bag this time because I knew I would need something big for a baby and toddler. I love it! I've been carrying it for a few weeks now already and it's been great! I don't normally like big bags, but this one has been a good size and I can bottles, sippy cups, snacks, diapers, wipes, will be able to fit formula if needed, and all of my stuff too. There are several pockets inside and out, plus two pockets that are the length of the bag on both sides of the main compartment.

I usually don't spend a bunch of money either, so buying this was huge for me but I am very pleased so far.

So I was also looking at the pottery barn one.. Are you worried about staining at all
Since it's not necessarily a "wipeable" surface? I love the classic as well
    As the herringbone!!
  • Got this from hubby yesterday as a mother's day gift. It's a Big Buddha diaper bag. I love that it looks like a huge purse. Love tote bag. I was thinking of just getting a nice tote with plenty of pockets and an insert. I might still do it, lol....a girl can never have too many bags.
  • Oops forgot to post the pic...

  • STM and I am fully team back pack.
  • We got my husband a Columbia diaper bag backpack, and we got me the Kate Spade "Stevie" diaper bag and also the StorkSak "Olivia" bag. I wanted something that can double as a purse, and I feel both bags can AND they're spacious with plenty of pockets. Neither in my opinion really look like diaper bags either.

I got the gray and it's pretty light so it'll probably stain at some point. I'm not too worried about it though, it happens with kids. I really wanted the teal but that would've been worse.

  • We're trying to do everything as cheaply as possible (cloth diapers, etc.) but my diaper bag was the one thing I splurged on.  I bought a Ju Ju Be BFF because it can be carried like a backpack.  My husband and I checked out other backpacks - we actually looked at REI - but I chose the Ju Ju Be because of its numerous pockets, thinsulate bottle pockets, and small size.  We can hang it on our stroller without the stroller tipping over.

You'll want a good quality bag because you'll bring it with you every day, everywhere, hopefully for years (multiple children).  Make sure the fabric is wipe-able/washable.  Would you feel comfortable putting poopy clothes in your bag?  Having a bottle spill?  Will the bag recover?  Make sure you can set it down on a grimy, public bathroom floor.  Does it have metal feet?  Organization -- it's easy to throw everything into a bag that has one big pocket (i.e., a regular backpack), but it's a pain in the butt to dig through the entire contents of that pocket to find the single pacifier, or bottle, or baby's current favored toy.  Get something with lots of pockets and always put your stuff in the same place.  Most important -- check the seams and hardware!  What good is a bag if the seams rip or the zippers cease to zip?

The Ju Ju Be BFF was $165 on Amazon --- my husband thought this was totally unreasonable (and truthfully, I did too) --- I watched it every day for over a month and the price kept changing.  I bought it at $125 using a $100 gift card from my baby shower!  Can you tell I'm psyched about the bag?  :)

Ya I was looking at the grey one as well! I might go black, my stiller is black and grey so either one of those colors are what in looking for. I need to get out to the mall (we only have one pottery barn kids in the whole state!) which is an hour away to look at them!!
  • I've had my eye on a Petunia Pickle Bottom boxy backpack for a few months. They're water resistant, can carry like a tote or a backpack, roomy, it has a changing pad attachment. Not really into spending that kind of money on a bag, so I kept an eye out on Craigslist and found one a few weeks ago for $30 missing the pad. Ordered a new one for $8 from PPB. Boom. Cheap.

I'm thinking of getting a backpack to keep my hands free. Carrying a purse, baby, and diaper bag down to the car in the norning sounds like too much for me.

I would really recommend you get a real diaper bag, or at least a bag that's waterproof and has a lot of inner pockets, you'll be using it for baby bottles and if not in a couple of months for juice and stuff, you need to be able to keep them straight. Also, it is a good idea to have a separate pocket with a zipper to put dirty clothes there, sometimes even the best diaper can leak and babies throw up a lot, so it'll be nice to keep the dirty clothes apart from clean ones and anything food related. Also, choose something that your husband can carry without feeling girly, he'll spend time alone with the baby eventually and if you get a woman's bag he's not gonna be too happy about it.

STM here, too. Regular old backpack all the way. It has plenty of pockets and we love the ease of hands free. I had a shoulder bag diaper bag when DS was tiny, but it got beat up quickly from daily use and it was really frustrating when it slid off the shoulder when lugging baby or car seat, purse, whatever else. We've been so happy with a backpack. Sure, style and fashion are great, but when you're toting diapers, burp cloths, etc, the bag is bound to get beat up a bit and convenience really becomes more important anyways.

  • I splurged and ordered a Lily Jade diaper bag. I love that it's leather and doesn't scream diaper bag to me. I went with one that can be carried like a purse and backpack. I am having twins so I think having the backpack option will be great! Also you can take the insert out and use in regular bags to make them more like a diaper bag.
  • We are going with a combination of a bag and a backpack (depending on how long the trip is, what we need to bring, and who will primarily be carrying it). The bag is from Etsy and the backpack is from Honest Company.
  • How bout a Vera Bradley tote?
  • FTM we got a graco backpack. Think it will be easiest and we can both use it. Seems to have lots of pockets for everything just waiting for it to arrive :)

We bought a 31 bag and added the pocket organizer. It has plenty of space and pockets and I love it!!
  • mers90mers90 member
Here's mine, it has 5 inner pockets, 3 outside. It also has 3 separate bags BPA free so you can put snacks there, but I'm using them for clothes or antibacterial gel and stuff that leak easily and I got a diaper pouch, so I have two changing mats.
  • I'm on my 3rd baby and used my boys' PBK Small Fairfax backpacks with them. However, this time, I wanted an actual diaper bag for myself bc now I'm carrying 3 kids' worth of stuff. I got the Timi & Leslie, Charlie diaper bag. It's very big and cute. I looked at the PBK Classic for weeks (in the store) & I only liked the Aqua & grey ones, BUT the staining aspect detered me! Even the ones in the store had dirt spots on them & they're on a shelf, not being used daily with kids. I couldn't justify something I could barely spot clean, that's costs $150+. The Timi & Leslie can be wiped clean and I'm really happy with it.
  • I just got a ju ju be! I'm a FTM and I hate carrying a purse so I wanted something that wouldn't fall off my shoulders. My husbands a farmer so the machine washable fabric will be extra handy! It has a "mommy pouch" in the front for your keys, sunglasses, wallet, ECT! And the inside has pockets and is roomy! It was a little pricey but it had great reviews and I youtubed how other moms packed it and felt it would work for my lifestyle!
  • I know it's a splurge, but I have the Gucci gg plus diaper bag and I really feel like it's worth it- I know it's made really well and that it will last through multiple children, my husband can carry it without issue, it's really easy to clean and stands up by itself, it has many pockets and it's quite roomy, but it's not so huge that it makes me look ridiculous when I wear it.
  • I don't really shop online or on ig accounts but I have a real LV and I really wanted to keep it while I have the babies around so to not ruin the real one hubby got me a semi real one for cheap and k got it already it looks just like the one I have and it's just as spacious I love it, I love that hubb has actually been listening to me too lol check her out reasonable prices
