December 2015 Moms

I'm not sick, but the fam says sickness means healthy baby!

so we told our families yesterday! We had a great loving response! I am only 7w3d. But the one thing that drove me nuts was everyone saying "the sicker you are, the healthier the baby"..... This after me telling them I have NO MORNING SICKNESS!!!! Is this true? Why would they say this?

Re: I'm not sick, but the fam says sickness means healthy baby!

  • Well, you are only 7 weeks my symptoms really hit me at 8, although I had been off a bit since conception. Though with my second son I only had heightened sense of smell and there was only 2 things that made me sick, the smell of garlic and seafood. Other then that I felt great. He was a healthy boy! My girlfriend was not sick once during her pregnancy, and had a healthy baby girl. Maybe your just one of those lucky mommas

  • People just blurt things out without thinking. I have a friend who wasn't sick at all during her pregnancy and her little girl is a healthy 2.5 year old. I am 7 weeks tomorrow and have not had any sickness either. There's a post further down about this topic. It will bring you comfort to see other mom-to-be's who aren't experiencing any nausea. Happy reading and congrats!
  • One thing I learned from my first pregnancy is that people are a$$holes.  They don't think and just say things and most people don't mean it in a mean way but it comes across that way.  I was so tired of hearing my first pregnancy that I didn't look pregnant and people asking whether or not I was telling the truth.  I didn't start showing until like 24 weeks or even later.  People also asked if I was eating, as if I was depriving my child of nutrients.  All they had to say was, "You look great!"  It's annoying, but unfortunately people are going to continue to say hurtful things like this to you.  You can either ignore them or let them know, it is up to you.

  • Not true at all.  Some mamas are lucky and they don't get hit with sickness at all.

  • Old Wives Tale that a lot of doctors perpetuate. I think they do it to make women feel better, and possibly to keep them from taking something that might potentially hurt baby when they feel so sick and are desperate. I've honestly known a handful of women who've had no ms whatsoever and their babies are healthy and perfect. Look at that show "I didn't know I was pregnant", they're babies are fine.

However, I will say this...I felt fine at 7wk3d. Right week around week 8 - bam! Sick as a dog. I'd hoped to escape, no such luck. I hope you escape but be prepared, it could still hit you too. So I hope they didn't scare you too much! Congrats on baby!!

  • Being sick indicates a healthy pregnancy but not being sick doesn't mean anything. Your pregnancy could be just as healthy. For the next 9 months don't listen to anyone! Lol
  • I have nausea but no vomiting. I had a similar experience with my.last pregnancy. My toddler was born full term and healthy. He's never had more than a cold.

I'm 7 wks 4 days. Not sick at all! Just really hungry and tired. But then again I just found out last week....

My sister in law was sick from day 1 she's 6 months now and on bedrest.

I consider myself lucky to not be sick. I see the other side and rather be how I am, I don't know if being sick or not means anything but I do know all woman are different. :)
  • It is nonsense, don't worry! About 80% of women get morning sickness and the other 20% don't... As far as I know there have been no studies conducted that show that the sicker you are the healthier the baby. Actually, it's the contrary because if you end up with hyperemesis gravardium (HG- acute and severe morning sickness like what Kate Middleton had), both mommy and baby are at risk. Try not to worry:-)
  • Bahh Don't listen to them, I never got sick at all with my first 2 and the were/are as healthy as they come!! This little one in the other hand is kicking my bum!!!!
    I do not think there's a correlation.

I was never sick with my daughter. Super easy pregnancy. At times I felt like some people almost seemed annoyed that I WASN'T sick. Some times you just get lucky. My daughter has been fine, very healthy and no pregnancy issues with her ever.

Second time around now and this one is being much harder on me. No morning sickness but a lot more nausea and headaches and a general ickiness that lasts pretty much most of the day. And now I'm annoyed that I'm not getting the easy road again since I have a toddler to chase this time. Each time is different so just enjoy it while you can! Pregnancy is always changing so if its easy just run with it while it lasts.
  • Ugh, my mother did this to me the other day. She called to tell me the "good news" that she read an article about how morning sickness may help protect the baby and it's a really good sign blah blah blah... Well, thanks mom, but I'm not very sick at all!! I've got major food aversions and nausea here and there when I'm hungry or full, but no vomiting. I think people assume everyone will be sick (I did), but I'll will be thanking my lucky stars if I can get through pregnancy without being too sick.

  • I'm almost 10 weeks and feel great! Very MILD nausea and full boobs but no where near the sickness I anticipated when first finding out we were expecting. I don't see a doctor until 12 weeks but have no reason to believe things are not progressing normally and healthy.

    Wishing you luck!

Girl, I have had severe morning sickness since 6 weeks and am now 11. Be thankful!! Everyone says things that worry you, but every pregnancy is different. I've had people tell me they had no sickness for any of their healthy pregnancies while my face has been glued to the toilet! Don't stress about it, when you get to see your baby and the heartbeat you will feel better.

Not true!!!! I have not really had m/s either and I will be ten weeks tomorrow. Doc said "it is perfectly fine not to be miserable" some women justddon't have it. My friend didn't have it w either of her daughter's and they are perfectly healthy 8 and 10 year olds. Don't know why anyone would say that to you!

But check search function there are quite a few encouraging posts on this topic
  • I have not been sick one bit. My Mom wasn't either. I am tired, very tired and super sore heavy tenders breasts! Went to the doctor today and he told me that "sickness" can include fatigue. He said it was a good indication of a healthy baby by having any or all symptoms and being fatigued just means the new resident is growing!
  • My best friend had very little morning sickness, didn't have to wear maternity pants, and ended up giving birth to an almost 8lb baby

I haven't had any vomiting but have been really tired and sore boobs on and off. This morning (on my way to 1st dr visit) I was severely offended by the smell by a restaurant but just a wave of nausea. I'm 7wks 2 days according to my dr and all is perfectly fine. I'm kinda hoping this is as bad as it gets but also expecting the shoe to drop any day.
  • Being sick doesn't indicate healthy or unhealthy pregnancy.

  • I was never sick with my first and this one still not sick. So it is not always true.
  • My first pregnancy with my twins I ha zero sickness. It was wonderful. And I have healthy 19 month old twins who were delivered at 38 weeks with zero complications. I had a beautiful pregnancy. This singleton I experienced 2 weeks of slight morning sickness and that's all.

That's ridiculous. The only thing that made me nauseous with my first was garlic. The smell the thought the taste ugh blegh. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. This time around I have nausea but no vomiting and it has been going away since I upped my water intake.

With my two other lo's, I got whammed with morning sickness at 9 weeks on the dot. Right now, I'm at 8 wks, 5 days and feeling fine. So, every person is different.
  • My mom was never sick and she had 3 children (including me). I am 9w 6d and I've only been sick a couple of times.
  • hmarieohmarieo member
I've had very mild nausea but have not been very sick at all and I got to see a VERY active 11 week old baby in there yesterday. Morning sickness can be genetic. My mom never had it, nor did my aunts. My younger sister is the only to experience it so far. It truly depends on the person, their body, and how they are reacting to the hormones. Morning sickness is not linked to healthier babies nor vise versa. Morning sickness was simply thought to protect the mom from eating anything bad that could harm the baby way back when. That's where the wives tale came from thar it helps "protect" the baby. Be thankful! If you get it, you get it. If you dont, you dont. :) Everything will turn out exactly how it should be either way. Good luck!
