Unfortunately if you try to lose it "fast" it's likely you'll find yourself getting into a cycle of losing weight fast, stopping your program (usually fad diets are those that advertise these results) and then putting the weight back on and then some. I tried this myself and doing fad diets contributed to my weight ballooning. It was only with the below that I lost 45 pounds.

The best way to lose weight is to go to a dietician or using a program that emphasises a healthy mix of diet and exercise. The Mediterranean diet is a great place to start or something like Weight Watchers. Give yourself permission to take time losing the weight so you can keep it off.

Depending on how long you've struggled with your weight, you could also get tested to see if you have a hormonal disorder like PCOS. If it's just recently, it's probably not that, though.

What have you been doing to get pregnant?

    Good luck TTC!!

  • I agree any lose weight fast program seems to have the yoyo effect on most women, and guys too actually. We had to take a lot of nutrition classes in college athletics. If you are needing to loose there are a lot of little things you can do. You can try to switch from a dinner to a salad plate, eat what you would like but keep it in smaller portions. Eat breakfast right when you get up as it supposedly starts your metabolism going. Eat smaller portions but eat every couple of hours. Dont eat at least an hour or two before bed so you body has time tonburn off what youve eaten. One of our "days" our nutritionalist planned was 0700 two scrambled eggs and a glass of milk 1000 was an apple with a tbs of peanut butter, 0100 was chicken pasta on a salad plate 0300 carrots with some ranch, 0700 a hamburger but a side salad instead of fries. The goal was to not cut out everything you want but to try and limit portions and try to make good meal choices the majority of the day. :) one thing I found helpful was to keep a food diary. It helps you know what you eat, why you eat and calories counts. Sorry that was a book and I'm not a nutrionalist but these were a couple of things I learned through sports. Good luck to you.

There is a post weekly, maybe join that to reduce weight and stay in shape.

Also stress doesn't keep stop ovulation, it may delay it, in some women, only way to know for sure is charting and temping.
Download fertility friend And do the tutorials(if you haven't started yet)

You are ttc since four years? Actively? With temping ? Maybe it's time to see a reproductive endocrinologist?

    Please give more info
  • It is suggested to aim for 1-2 pounds per week, other wise you are likely to gain it all back (plus some).
However, if your diet is crap, just changing it can have a great outcome. (Not saying yours is). Try logging in your intake on MyFitnessPal, either website or app. It helps you figure of your diet and if you are missing anything.
90% of weight loss is in the kitchen.
    good luck.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • Sorry to hear you're feeling desperate. From your tone, it seems like you're blaming yourself and feeling pretty guilty. Please don't, fertilty is not about "what's wrong with you" and taking the blame. This is not your fault.

If you've been trying to conceive for four years, it's time to see an expert. Please consult an RE. You deserve help.

As for the weight loss, PP are right: "fast" and "healthy" don't go together when it comes to dieting...

As PPs have said, there's no fast fix to losing 20 pounds. The majority of weight loss is diet. Start slow by seapping one or two things at a time so you don't feel deprived and exercise...even 30 minutes/4-5 days a week.

  • The lose it app is awesome and free. Its a great way to track what you are eating and has a barcode scanner so you can just scan in nutritional content.

  • I think it's important to know that it will require a lifestyle change - and not a diet - to be healthy.

Try completely cutting out all processed sugars from your diet.  Be aware that sugars are in a LOT of things, like pretty much all bread products, dairy, etc.  You'll find that you will be eating a ton of veggies and meat.
  • Have you had your insulin levels checked? I was having trouble losing weight and didn't get regular periods, so I went in for some tests. Turns out I have PCOS and need to take Metformin to help regulate my insulin. Still TTC, but just got my dosage right so hoping that will do the trick on its own by aiding my weight loss. Down 4 lbs so far without making any significant changes. I had worked my butt off to lose weight before and it never did a thing. Now, it's going down on it's own. Starting my new exercise plan and watching carbs today. Can't wait to see what that brings for weight loss. PS... Started with my OBGYN and now am with a RE. Would def recommend the RE for the diagnostic/treatment if it turns out to be PCOS. Good luck!

Oh, and there's a free site called Sparkpeople.com that is AMAZING when  you're trying to lose weight. It is FREE and has EVERYTHING you could every need. Food/Fitness/Weight trackers, meal plans, recipes, exercise videos... you name it.

    Smells like spam.
It's legit. I used it when I was trying to lose weight after college. I'm surprised it's still around with all the new apps that are out.

  • Thanks for all the advice guys! its been great. And yes I am seeing a RE this Thursday, to do an ultrasound. I am pretty scared/ nervous. I might not be ready to hear what I kind of know. I've been trying to cut out a lot of carbs and sugars. Specially my favorites PASTA & BREADS. :( I have my fitness pal but its whatever. I usually lose weight by basically cutting carbs and anything sugar and trying to just eat veggies and fruits. And do work outs while I'm at work specially when I walk up the stairs. I just stress a lot and I think lately I've been taking it out with food. In the couple days I've been gone I've actually listened to you guys and try to focus on my eatings and counting calories with trying to stay away from fats and unhealthy foods. I really appreciate the support from you ladies. <3
  • I agree with pp. My Fitness Pal is the way to go! I love being able to track and check in my eats daily.

Tons of awesome information on here!  I'm going to share my methods as well:
    • Plan Food-  I use Pepperplate.com to save recipes I find on my favorite blogs and then I use the Meal Planning tool.  Once I plan my meals, I "add to list," then sort out what I already have (ex- salt, olive oil, etc.) and shop for exactly what I need.  Not only does this hold me accountable, but saves us tons of money!!  My favorite blogs are skinnytaste.com and skinnymom.com  (The recipes are awesome and are man-friendly, lol).
    • Log Food- Use an app to log your food.  I personally use LoseIt.com, but there are several out there to choose from.
    • Track Activity- I also use MapMyFitness to log my cardio and it automatically syncs to my LoseIt, helping me see how much activity it takes to burn off that pizza I just had to have (and will continue to have because pizza is awesome).
    • Support- I have a friend who is into Beachbody/ Shakeology and she has monthly accountability groups for the 21 Day Fixers.  I do not pay for any of the services or products (not in my budget), but I am active in her 3-week accountability groups.  It helps me stay on track, realize I'm not the only one on a mission, and I get some awesome new recipes out of it :)  I'm sure you all have people in your newsfeed on FB trying to sell you Shakeology, so ask if they have a group you can join (if you think you need the extra support).
Good luck in your journey and remember it's a marathon, not a sprint! :)

  • I used My Fitness Pal while I was engaged and it really helped. I think just seeing how much damage one soda can do in relation to your whole day puts things in perspective. Also the T25 and short at home work outs are a great way to stay on top of working out on a more regular basis or those cheap at home ellipticals. My sister bought one and always runs when she is watching her garbage TV - it keeps her from binge eating chocolate instead lol :)

    Good luck!!

I think the important thing to think of with MyFitPal and others like it, is that just staying within your calorie goal does very little if what you're eating has little to no nutrional value.

Sure, it's great to stay within your 1500 daily calorie goal, but if you've filled it with pizza, pasta, and beer, in the long run it won't do anything.

I was a long time myfitpal user and made sure that I looked at my nutrional breakdown, but not everyone does that. I use 21 day fix now and my eating is night and day compared to what it had been.

  • Some things I've done -- I stopped drinking coffee, because of the caffeine and because I load it up with sugar. Cut out soda too. Sugar, sugar, sugar! Man, it's crazy, but it's true how much sugar is having a horrible affect on the American diet. I also watched the documentary FED UP, which by the way drove me crazy since I am TTC. Just watching these poor kids who are obese/overweight and how unhappy they are! :( It made me realize I need to eat healthier NOW so I can instill good eating habits in my future children!

I also do "vegetarian" lunches, and stick to lean meals throughout the week. I change it up as much as I can, and try to keep dinners "man" friendly for the DH, since he always likes to have some meat. But I've also incorporated foods we never ate much of into our diet now: sweet potatoes, lentils, kidney/black/navy beans, peppers, farro, rolled oats, brussel sprouts, plums, different kinds of nuts, almond milk, etc. I've also ditched anything labeled "fat free" (because they take out the fat and put SUGAR in its' place!). So to get dairy in I opt for full fat yogurts with no added sugar. And I still love the occasional bit of different types of cheeses.

My weeks are strict, but I open up my diet on the weekends. Case in point, DH and I ate out twice last weekend, once we had pizza, and we went all out for a guttonous Sunday brunch. But, it's all about moderation.

I also try to get as much exercise as possible. Luckily for me there are few ladies at my work who have instituted a "walking club" and we walk twice a day! It's amazing how much getting a bit of exercise into your routine will help! :) Don't know if any of this helps, but none the less, good luck to you in your journey!
  • @ktmitchell11 super awesome ! hope everything was good in your visit. <3  @jnnfrrose6 I know, but honestly thank you for that advice. @minimekey thank you for that advice. :)
