What does your uterus feel like?

Hi again ladies, I am 12w5d today with my first pregnancy.  I think my uterus may have finally "popped" above my pelvis over the weekend but I'm just not sure. I'm sorry if this has already been asked and answered here in the Nov 2015 Birth Club, but what does it literally feel like?  If you press your fingers against it, is it incredibly obvious?  I have actually not gained any weight thus far, but I did start out with a little extra fat around my lower abdomen.  Up until this past weekend I have been incredibly bloated with no bump yet, however I'm curious to know if what I think I feel is actually my uterus or just my intestines. Thanks for your input!

Re: What does your uterus feel like?

  • This is my 5th baby and I say it's feels like your bladder is extremely full or hard to the touch.

  • I've never really gone feeling for it.
If you lay on your stomach you probably can feel it. Kind of feels like laying on a tennis ball. I never tried to feel for mine last time. I'm a few days shy of 12 weeks now and was having some Braxton hicks yesterday and realized it had moved up just by that.

I have to lay down and press down firmly above my pubic bone. It feels like a solid rounded knob. I'm 13+ weeks now with my second.

Mine feels very hard to the touch. I can actually tell how far up it goes by feeling for the difference.
  • I am 15wks tomorrow and I can say within the last week or so my uterus has moved way up. It is hard and pushing out right under my belly button, when I press on it it feels tender almost like when you have to pee really really bad and have to hold it for like an hour! But not like I actually have to pee just what your bladder feels like when it's that full, hard to explain I guess, because its not your bladder that is full! Same sensation I guess because it's the same nerves that are getting pushed on as when your bladder is full.

Thanks to all of you for your responses!!  This is helpful.  I am definitely tender between my pubic area and belly button, but now I am just not sure if my uterus popped at all.  Since it is my first pregnancy and I have a tilted uterus I probably won't have an actual 'bump' that isn't bloat for several more weeks at best.  And I am not complaining!  Clothes are not cheap, so I am happy that I can still fit into all the clothes I was wearing before I found out I was pregnant in March.  Thanks again!!
  • A tennis ball is a good description. Laying on your stomach can definitely help you feel where it is because it'll probably be uncomfortable. And if you lay on your back you'll probably feel it down pretty low. I've never felt my intestines! Never been that skinny I guess but my uterus feels like a hard ball. Next time you go to the doc have them help if you still can't quite tell for sure!

  • At my very first ob appointment my doc said my uterus was really popping out...that was week 9 with my 2nd pregnancy. I don't think it's really changed a whole lot since then, maybe moved up some...but I lay down every night and press on my belly and feel around anyway. It's exciting to feel the changes.
  • Laying on your back it's kinda like the tennis ball example as said above. It feels almost like a tennis ball just sitting there. Harder than the rest. :)
  • Mine feels hard but only if I feel it low enough (right above pelvic bone) and I can feel it more if I'm lying on my back (and can see it protruding out a bit) anything above that is still quite soft
  • Lol I can't lay on my belly anymore but not because of my belly, my boobs have gotten so big it hurts to lie on them
  • It feels like you're full. It'll feel a little harder, though not too obvious, and it won't go in no matter how much you suck in.
  • I'm 15 weeks almost but can't bring myself to push hard enough so I dunno where mine is. It makes me nauseous prodding my belly hard and I can't obviously feel it unfortunately
