Would you rather...

would you rather have the membrane sweep... Or wait and possibly be induced?

Re: Would you rather...

  • Membrane sweep won't promise labor. I haven't been checked at all. I will probably ask tomorrow at my 40 week appointment. If nothing by 41 weeks I'll probably do a membrane sweep. I had a membrane sweep with DD but they just did it. Didn't ask.

  • Luckily they won't do pitocin with me - so I have to opt for the membrane sweep. Need to do some research still on what else she may suggest. Ive heard pitocin makes for a horrible labor anyway. I think the sweeping is more natural as far as not using drugs... Although I may be opting for an epidural in the end. Do what you're comfortable with.
  • Membrane sweep. It's uncomfortable but not painful. It doesn't guarantee anything but if your body is close it could help Kickstart labor and prevent the need for drugs. I'm facing an induction in the next week being over 41 weeks and I'd do just about any natural method to avoid an induction at this point

My doctor just did a sweep without asking. It did nothing except for caused some cramping and irregular contractions. That was 3 days ago. I'm 39 weeks. I do not want to be induced at all. I just want her to come when she decides to. Honestly, I didn't even know she did the sweep. It was not painful or uncomfortable but I know it's different for everyone.
  • I had the membrane sweeping 2 weeks ago a nd I'm going to be induced today. They are starting with the foley balloon first though...super nervous.

@mtaylor8888 keep us updated please :) many of us are facing induction soon ... You've got this! I've read other posters say the balloon is a bit uncomfortable but doesn't hurt and then baby will be coming soon! Yay!
