Bridesmaid Dresses!

One of my best friends asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding this September. I am thrilled for her and completely excited....except for the fact that I have until the end of this month to order my dress. Wtf? How are you supposed to order a dress almost 37 weeks pregnant lol?

I have no idea! Haha. I'm a FTM and have no clue what size I'll be in September. Maybe go a size or two up from your normal size because it's easier to take in something that's too big?

  • Good grief I have no idea. The ordering a couple sizes up to take it in is a good suggestion, but other than that I got nothing. Good luck, have fun!

  • If you are breastfeeding I'd definitely go a size or two up.  You can take it in everywhere else but you can't let it out much at the chest.  I had a similar situation after having my first.  I looked like a porn star even with the dress 2 sizes bigger . . . wore a nice cropped cardigan for any of the times I could get away with it.  Have fun, it will be nice to have the event to look forward to being a part of.

I used to work at a bridal shop... Pp are correct. Order a couple of sizes up from your normal pre pregnancy size. Taking in is easy but letting out can be difficult or even impossible. Take into account how much weight you gained during pregnancy... If 40 pounds or less then ordering a couple sizes up should work.

Order big! Just in case! I'm in a wedding 3 weeks after my due date. I ordered the dress 6 sizes too big haha. No one at the bridal dress knew what to do with me.
  • I think two sizes up sounds about right. Oh I hope that's good enough with the girls lol.
  • I'm in a wedding in September too. I've made sure to eat really healthy and have gained 17 lbs so far and I have 4 weeks to go so hopefully I can keep it up. I ordered 2 sizes bigger. Good luck to you.

At least it doesn't sound like you have to pick out your dress, you just have to guess a size and order. As much as being able to choose your own style is fun, having one more thing on your to do list before LO arrives probably wouldn't be helpful.

I suppose as PP suggested, order a few sizes up and start doing your research on finding a good seamstress now.

You'll look like a bombshell regardless of your shape with the right person sewing up your dress! Don't stress. Good luck :)
  • I have high hopes for 3 months out from baby being born... but it may be a bit of wishful thinking LOL.

I agree with PP that its easier to take in a dress than to make one bigger. And if you have to take it in a lot then you would feel better about yourself!!

    Good luck!!

  • I got to pick my own as long as it's Alfred Angelo, short, chiffon, and navy. I think the Alfred Angelo 8102 (short) works. I think this one will hold up the girls and cover any lingering tummy bulges. And thank God for Spanx!
  • Ugh I had to deal with this too. I'm in a wedding in october and we had to order by may 1st. I'm typically a 10 and the chock at the store recommended I get a Size 22. Worst part was she insisted on me trying on the sample dresses that were size 10. So friggin stupid, clearly that wasnt working. I have gained 30 lbs but I still think her estimation was too much. They threw in free alterations so hopefully they'll be able to cut the dress in half. Blegh!
  • I was supposed to be in my friends wedding this past Friday. I could not since I am on modified bedrest. We went dress shopping in December and I ended up buying a dress 2 sizes bigger. At that time I was pregnant with triplets. We lost one and are having twins. So I spent $120 on a dress that I never wore. I should have waited then bought a dress later and see how I was doing.
  • When I got married, one of my bridesmaids had just had her first baby two weeks before...she had to pump milk before she could put the dress on, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to fit into it! I was so happy that she stood up for me that day, seeing as how she had just had her daughter...when I was two weeks postpartum with my son I was so groggy and out of it I wouldn't have known what day it was at all!

It took me a long time to lose my baby weight (I didn't drop any until I stopped nursing), and I was a good two sizes larger for that time...definitely order up and try to take it in afterward! Good luck! :)

Yikes, that seems way too big! I hope it works out!

That's a pretty dress. I like the short much better than the long, too, even though you didn't have a choice.

That's hilarious, my bridesmaid dresses were EXACTLY the same - ladies could pick any style they were comfy in as long as short, chiffon, navy Alfred Angelo. They each managed to find a different dress!
  • You ladies are troopers. I dropped out of a wedding in August. Although to be fair, it is across the country. My friend is due with a baby in June too, so she was very understanding!
