Anyone ever need last minute alterations on a bridesmaid dress?

Help! Wedding on Friday and my stomach must have grown all the sudden! I tried the dress on last week and it fit. Now I can't zip the top. Tomorrow when my husband is home I will get him to try. Second pregnancy and I never expected to carry so high already.

Anyone have advice or a similar situation?! Obviously I'll call David's bridal tomorrow if needed.

Don't force the dress. Even if you can get it zipped you most likely will not be overly comfortable. Get the dress realtered, they can do amazing things!!
  • Just not sure that they'll do it in less than a week. Maybe a local seamstress will or I can exchange with David's Bridal. Not sure what to do yet, but I'm freaking out!
  • Go to a local dry cleaning place, they're usually cheaper and quick!
  • I'm 15 wks and getting married next week I had to alter my dress and it just fits now hopping next wk it will to its in the Dominican as well. I would just get a bigger size then alter closer to the sate as you can

The alteration lady at my dry cleaner can turn things around in a day, so try yours.

Also, depending on where the dress is tight, you can try switching your bra or wearing spanx or a belly band. Obviously a pregnant belly is different than a chubby belly but it may help shift things enough that the dress closes easily. Switching undergarments can drastically change how your clothes fit.

  • The dress is from David's bridal so I can't imagine that they can order and have it by Friday.
My husband worked night shift do as soon as he gets up I'm trying it on with his help.
    Unfortunately, I'm not wearing a bra:/

I agree with the dry cleaner! Usually fast and usually cheaper than David's. That being said one of my bridesmaids forgot to get her dress hemmed and they did it a few days before my wedding but they way overcharged her:( last resort spanxs?
  • I was able to get a bridesmaid dress altered the night before/day of a wedding by a seamstress from a local handmade clothing store.
  • I was 23 weeks pregnant when I got married and was able to fit into my dress wearing spanx. I had extra chub that was sucked in with the spanx, so I was an inch or two smaller that way.

i believe David's Bridal requires 2 weeks turnaround for alterations, so I'd take it to a local seamstress instead.

  • Thanks everyone for your thoughts and advice. I wish it were as simple as spanx, but my stomach fits. It's tight on my rib cage and up so I guess my boobs few a little (bras fit fine) and my stomach is high already (second pregnancy) so I think that effected the space up there. It's weird because my belly has plenty of room.

    Anyway....
The good news is my husband zipped it up, but it's tight and a little uncomfortable so I may have to talk to a local seamstress.
    Thank you!

Call David's and see what they can do. I ordered my dress 2 sizes bigger back in January expecting to be expecting for my sisters July wedding. I'm opting to use them for my alterations because they told me if they had time they'd exchange for a new size. If you don't have that kind of time then I'd do someone local also.
