When does baby meet the world?

my little one is 3 weeks 5 days, I've been a little nervous about taking her out or letting her meet young school age cousins (they go to school with all those germs!) i also have a little personal guilt because she will be a daycare baby at 10 weeks and I feel like she is going to be introduced so many germs then that I just want to let her incubate a little longer. When did you all start bringing your newborns out and about and letting other people meet/hold her?
*I'm not horrible family has all met her and even some neighbors:) just inside my home on my own terms with hand washing and anti bacterial nearby...

  • My babe is 3 weeks 3 days and this afternoon we are going to my work to visit co workers... Maybe carry hand sanitizer in your diaper bag so you can make people use it?

  • 3rd time mom, we went to walmart the weekend after she was born, and have been at least 5 times since shes been born, she has been to 3 family gatherings, the park, out to breakfast with friends, the hospital to meet my neice, thrfit stores and more. Still as healthy as a horse! I worked in a daycare, she is going to get sick and she will build her immune system.
  • I'm a FTM but I like to be very active (really hard while recovering from an emergency c section though). Our son is 3 weeks 1 day. But we take our son out of the house at least once a day. We take him to the store or out to eat with us. We just keep his car seat covered and don't let strangers touch him. And anyone who does hold him has to wash or sanitize their hands first. We have been taking him out since about 1 week old.
  • I pretty much have taken my baby everywhere from the beginning. My girls still go to daycare, so there's the chance they're bringing something home. My DS has been to Target (multiple times), Kohls, the grocery store, preschool graduation, various places for meals, church, and gymnastics (3 times). I think I'd go crazy being at home all the time.
  • We've been taking DD pretty much everywhere. We also don't let people hold her unless they've sanitized first. But we also don't have too much choice since I don't want to pay a babysitter to watch her while I run errands in town (nearest big town is 30 minutes away) when I can do all my errands after her doctor and lactation consultant appointments.

I totally understand mama. With my first, I was very picky about to whom and when he was introduced to the world. With the subsequent children it did not matter so much, because of the presence of the other children. It is totally up to your comfort level mama. You are the one that has to deal with a sick child, if that happens, especially such a young sick child, not fun at all in my opinion. Keep making wise choices mama!Hugs!

  • Thank yall! I think it may be time for her to see a little more of the world:) We take a daily walk and visit our Neigbor down the street and she's been to the doctors office so I haven't been on crazy lockdown just a little worried especially about bringing her to visit the office, I work in a visitors center and there are sooo many people in and out, just makes me so nervous!

If you have a carrier of some sort (ergo, moby wrap) you could put your LO in there and then strangers aren't likely to touch and he/she won't get passed around unless you take them out of the carrier. I had a c-section, too, but we've been taking him out since about day 5 and my husband carries him in our ergo. A month later, I'm starting to carry him around the house and short distances in a Girasol woven wrap...the higher placement doesn't bother my incision as much.

I'm also a teacher and we've been successful at breast-feeding, so I feel like he's pretty well covered by my ridiculously good immunity at this point. 5 years of teaching will do that to you...
