Hi ladies, question for those that have pumped or plan on pumping. What extra parts would you suggest having on hand? I'm really unsure and I couldn't find anything about this when I searched. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I bought an extra set of membranes, shields and tubes on Amazon. But I bought the wrong size cup! I know that my hospital will also give me some. It will be nice to have an extra set bc you don't have to wash it between pumping sessions.
I didn't need extra tubes, but having an extra set of shields or two is nice so you don't have to wash during the work day. Also extra membranes are nice to have on hand in case one of yours seems to be damaged and not laying flat. I ordered this set this time around:
It was a lot cheaper and had good reviews. The problem is you might not know your shield size until a few weeks in. If you can't wait I'd order the 24-25 mm (or ask a lactation consultant to guess for you based on your current size). At this price you can order again if needed.
Yes, your hospital will give you 1 set. I highly recommend extras. I had a ton extra membranes and shields. In the beginning, I only had the 2 sets and it was miserable. I was constantly washing. Once I had enough to get through 1 wash a day, it was great. I exclusively pumped. Wait to find out your size. You can probably ask a doc or nurse.

Check with your hospitals website the brand of pump parts they give. I plan to rent a Medela but my hospital gives free Ameda parts. I went on Amazon & bought a set (shield, tubing, ect) & extra membranes just in case.
Also, you don't have to wash the parts every time you use it. You can put it in a ziploc bag & throw it in the fridge & wash once a day. If you're using it at work though I'd buy pump wipes & wash everything when you get home.
For during the work day, I used wipes. Ditto on all of the above. I'd also recommend the sterilizer bag for the tubing. They can get pretty gross and that's the only way to get them really clean.

I'd wait on purchasing shields until you know your size.
