Unable to eat meat.... Normal?

Since I was 5 weeks pregnant I have not been able to eat meat. The touch, smell, taste, basically everything about it, makes me nauseous.
Is this normal?
Will it go away?

  • Incredibly normal, and probably.

  • I don't have any weird aversions, yet!
My last pregnancy I couldn't eat green beans, and I love green beans. It might pass, it might not. Might be time to start finding out what alternate protein sources you like lol!

I can't eat/smell/touch any meat either. I keep joking with my husband that the baby must be a vegetarian. Meat & eggs make me GAG!
  • I'm the same way, which makes me concerned if I'm having enough protein for my growing babies
  • Yup. I cant even type red meat without wanting to gag.

  • It's usually because you can smell the hormones. It never passed with my first.
  • Totally normal. I still eat meat, but far less frequently than I used to.

I couldn't eat meat the last tri of my first pregnancy, and there are only certain meats that I can handle now..

Same way. I can't cook it, can't even think about it. I can muscle down chicken if it's already been prepared ( like a chick fil a sandwich ;) ) but I crave eggs. One day I ate 5 eggs through out the day! My cholesterol is going to be through the roof! LOL
  • My sister was that way and she is the biggest meat eater I know! She couldn't even go in that section at the store. Once the baby came she was back to her old self!
  • Totally normal - I can't eat it either!
I think the whole "eating well balanced" is more important in the 2nd tri. Right now it's just about eating what you can!
There are other alternatives than meat to get your protein: nuts and legumes are an excellent option as is some dairy (I mix Greek yogurt into smoothies).
  • I had the same issue with my first and this time too. For me it lasted the entire pregnancy. I had to really work to make sure to eat enough protein and calories during the day!

I saw some protein for pregnant women in vitamin shoppe. I was thinking about trying that because I have the same aversion to meat. Has anyone tried that protein? I'm waiting to talk to my doctor next week about it

I can't stand meat and eggs right now either. I've been drinking protein shakes and adding Greek yogurt to my smoothies to get some protein in.

  • I just came from my MIL where they had lobster and pork chops for mothers day...i had a bowl of cereal because since week 5 i havent been able to eat meat at all and the small is disturbing haha...im 9 weeks now with still no desire to eat meat..i just add whey protien to my morning smoothies and try to get some nuts in too for snacks.

I no longer have ms per say but i definatly have no desire to eat meals and i have alot of adversions.
  • I can eat meat as long as I don't smell it cooking, but if I smell the meat raw or mid cooking process forget about it :-&
  • Oh my gosh, I was just about to post about this. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Every time I've eaten meat, I've felt terrible. This morning didn't want to get out of bed for the first time because I wasn't exactly sure what would happen. Had my worst bout of m/s the other day after half a steak, it was miserable.

The protein shakes are a great idea, I've been able to handle a little milk.

To be honest, this is what I've been eating to get my protein, because usually, I'm a protein nut: cottage cheese (and lots of it), eggs, chocolate milk and almonds.

Glad to see I'm not the only one and others are getting it also. Well, not that you're feeling bad, but you can commiserate...
