Gaining weight like crazy?

Is anyone else gaining a large amount of weight? I have read it is normal to gain up to 5 pounds but I have already gained 8.. I haven't had any morning sickness though

Re: Gaining weight like crazy?

  • I've gained about 7 lbs and I'm only 7 weeks. But I also quit taking adderall when I found out and I only recently started getting nausea (still no puking). Everyone keeps saying not to worry about it but it makes me nervous about how much I'll gain the rest of my pregnancy! Trying to eat healthier and work in some exercise but I'm soooo tired.

I've also gained weight, I'm in week 8 and have gained 7 pounds. My friend who has just had a baby says that it's just due to bloating and hers came off again in the 2nd trimester ... Im keeping my fingers crossed! X
  • Right now it's probably bloat, thank goodness. I had gained almost ten pounds and then I had a bad 24 hours of flu and lost 8 pounds in that 24 hrs. That's just not possible unless it is from bloat and water weight.
  • I sure hope so!
  • I wouldn't worry about it unless you know you've been eating terribly 24/7 for the last 7 weeks. I had pizza and chick fila this weekend and gained 2 pounds so I'm feeling guilty... I should have known better...
  • I've actually lost weight, I'm almost positive it's muscle mass though. :-S I used to work out really hard lots of heavy weights and what not, I've been very cautious since I found out and let my weight lifting take a toll. I'm up in pant sizes though, also up in extra belly fluff :((
  • I wouldn't worry. I've gained a lot of water weight. Literally, 5 lbs gained in two days during week 5. Definitely wasn't eating that much for it to be anything but bloat! And since having terrible morning sickness, it seems backwards but the only thing that keeps me from puking is to keep my stomach full. And the only thing I can eat is bread. I rarely ate bread before pregnancy so I can only imagine what a diet of bagels, crackers, toast, and Popsicles has done to me. I was the same way with my last pregnancy. Even though I lost a few pounds at one point from morning sickness I still managed to gain 9lbs in the first tri! In the end I'd only gained 31 lbs. I think some of us are just more affected by that bloat than others! So long as you're eating mostly healthy natural foods you're going to gain exactly what baby needs!

  • I had gained 5lbs at my 8w checkup - I'm at my 11w check up now and I'm down 3lbs for a net of 2lbs.
  • 10w 2d net weight change is -2lbs. Giving up drinking caused me to lose 5lbs! It's creeping back though :)
  • I'm up about 10 in 9 weeks. Hoping it's water weight like everyone is saying!

A lot of weight gain in the first trimester points to multiples !!! Once that morning sickness kicks in, you will start dropping some pounds
  • It helps that you haven't been sick.  Im in the same boat and I feel like I'm drastically different, though I don't have a scale at home and wait to be weighed at the doctor.  Its mostly water, but keep track of how many cheats you've been able to eat. I might have 5 cheats a week (lots of ice cream, fried anything...).  Just keep track of living healthy and you should be fine.

Are you being serious about the weight gain...?
  • 10 weeks and gained 10 pounds. I saw a pregnancy specialist and he told me it was water weight. I just stopped my Diamox when I found out I was pregnant too. I'm not eating anymore than usual and I'm a vegetarian.
  • 10 weeks and I've gained 5 lbs.... but ALL of them were in the past week!!  We were in NY for the past week and I thought walking 6-10 miles a day would have the opposite effect.  I need to get off the carb train I have been on now that my stomach is finally settled.  The only time I didn't feel nauseous is when my stomach is full.  Hopefully it's water weight from traveling and eating out every day!
  • I'm also in the same boat ladies. I'm 10 weeks 2 days and I've gained 7lbs at least. I also stopped taking adderall week 4 and have not had any vomiting. Plenty of waves of nausea but no vomiting. I'm trying to not be too upset about it but certainly concerned. Constipation doesn't help either. Hang in there mommies ;)
  • I know this thread is old but my weight gain is out of control. I keep eating carbs and I'm 10w4d and gained 10 pounds. I feel disgusting and horrible all the time but every time I open the fridge I wanna throw up! All the smells are awful.

I've gained about 10 lbs according to my doctor's horrible scale of depression... tonight I feel like a bloated mess.

    Edited: I forgot to add I'm only 10w 3d
  • I gain a lot during my pregnancies.

    I am at 18lbs at 12 weeks.

I have had no complications so it's just what my body does to support a growing life.  :)
  • I have gained about 10lbs in my first trimester. It's all belly, all my pants still fit. So that is one good thing! My sister is pregnant too and she already had to buy new underwear. I'm not going to obsess about my weight, just trying to have a healthy baby. :)

  • You guys made me feel a little better! Tomorrow I'm gonna try and follow a more balanced diet and not cave right away to my cravings. I had body image issues pre-pregnancy and despite being healthy, I was definitely at the high end of the normal BMI range. I had wanted to lose a good 30 pounds before conceiving but little one couldn't wait to start growing!!
  • I'm 14 weeks now and have gained 10lb. I gained 60 with my first pregnancy but lost it all plus some. I would like to stay under 40 this time. Up until this past week I was only able to keep down carbs, so that didn't help.

I was very concerned at my dr appt a week ago. I had gained about 10 lbs already. She told me to just try to make good food choices etc which I am not the best at since everything sounded horrible! I am happy to say though that I am 13 weeks now and have not gained anything in 2 weeks. I have started to feel better and a lil less bloated now also. I'm hoping to not over gain and struggle to lose it after.

@jscasher I was like that until last week. I turned 15W yesterday and am now eating like a normal person again. I've gained a total of 5lbs as of two days ago. I call it my food baby. Lol. You'll come around.

    * still hate the smell of meat. Esp BBQ
  • Im 14 weeks an i have been eating like crazyy. I bet i weight more than 12 pounds... Someone helpp!!!
  • With my last two pregnancies I had gained 60-70 lbs. I started out both times at 115/120. My OB was never concerned as I didn't have gestational diabetes and I was healthy otherwise. It's just what my body does. And I lose it all super quick after. I'm now almost 13 weeks pregnant with our third, and I've gained 3 lbs. Hoping to not gain so much this go around though!

  • I'm just staying away from the scale with the exception of my OB appointments.

I wasn't concerned with my first. I was so sick for the first 2 trimesters I didn't gain a thing. Only gained a total of 27 lbs that pregnancy...but this time, oh man....I can eat right through nausea and vomiting....I have a fear of this being a 60 lb baby hahaha.

So for my best interest, i'll just sit over here eating my Mayo and cheese sandwich and not even look at that scale.

I lost a little weight between my first two appointments (10w and 13w), which leads me to believe I had lost some prior to my first.  I don't really ever weigh myself, though, so I'm not sure what my weight was before (and I probably don't want to).  I'm overweight, so I'm only supposed to gain 15 lbs.
  • I can't control my weight gain or hunger even tho I exercise every day! I'm seriously starving! Gained 60 with my first and ate like crap and didn't exercise one bit... I hope I don't gain that much but I already gained 14 at 12 weeks. I was pretty tiny to start and I am 5'9 I need to throw out my scale I'm am so stressed out now but so hungry!!
  • @elittler I gained 60lbs with my last pregnancy and started at 100lbs.  Lost all the weight and started this pregnancy at 95lbs.  Was hoping to gain less this time around but it appears that was just wishful thinking.  LOL
  • I'm 12w and have gained 10lbs.  I've been super nauseous and quite frankly, eating carbs and cheese is the only thing that has made me feel better.  I feel a little guilty but whatever man, I did what I had to do to keep myself from barfing my brains out.

Now that the nausea is wearing off, I've been able to snack on normal things like apples and granola bars.  I'm hoping the weight gain will level off in 2nd tri.
