Fit Mommies

Any fit mommies out there? I'm a personal trainer and have definitely felt a difference in my energy levels and recovery. I'm 12 weeks and have gained 3 lbs so far

Re: Fit Mommies

  • I'm not really sure what the definition of a fit mommy might be.  Now that I've got some energy back I'm walking and hiking as normal and doing stretches and yoga.  I consider myself fit, but I'm no personal trainer.  lol.

  • I've been practicing karate for 24 years and took a break for the first 12 weeks (I just couldn't handle it as I was too sick). I went back a week ago to teach and train and boy is my stamina compromised already! Plus I have been getting DOMS which I never really got before (unless it was a VERY intense workout). I didn't notice too much of a difference with my first.
  • I'm the owner of a dance studio and still teach about 15+ classes a week. Really struggled the past three months with sickness so I've been limited with what I could physically do. Gained 4lb but feeling soooo much better and ready to get back to the gym, jogging and being more physically active in my dance classes :)

Zumba Instructor and gym-a-holic...fortunately I was able to continue going to the gym even in my first trimester, just cut it back some. I usually go daily, but was doing 3-5 times a week. Not currently teaching Zumba. I usually use the Stairmaster for my cardio and am an avid weight lifter, but I decided to go for a run outside yesterday, haven't ran in about a month and a half and was able to do four miles fairly easily. I feel great today besides my hips and back being sore, which they were before.

Anyone else having people tell you to stop working out? Or limit yourself. I feel like one time someone rubs me the wrong way I might bite their head off. :-@
  • I used to be a fit mama but I've had such a hard time staying active these last couple of months :(. I'm a runner but I haven't been able to run nearly as often or as far as usual due to morning (all day) sickness and exhaustion. I've lost 3 pounds which is not a good thing. Really hoping that my energy comes back soon and I'm able to run throughout the rest of pregnancy.
  • Personal trainer & group fitness instructor here! :) I have continued to teach and take clients! Getting in my own workouts has been hard with the nausea and fatigue. Finally starting to feel better now that I am 12w1d! :)

I am a spin instructor but I also love any kinds of workouts. I, too, am tired of being told I should slow down or stop because I'm pregnant.

Also, This is such a vain thing to hold on to but we've been planning a family vacation to Hawaii for Christmas (husband and his family) and when we told my MIL we were expecting her first comment was, "well, I guess you won't be wearing a bikini!" Spit out water. WTF? So now I feel oddly self conscious thinking about my body 7 weeks post baby. I want to stay healthy & active for so many reasons but this comment is on constant loop in the back of my head.
  • I do Muay Thai and mma so I've obviously had to stop those as its full contact. I've been running, weightlifting and swimming instead but found I'm going less due to tiredness. Don't want to lose my fitness. Does anyone do circuit training? I think if I tell my coach I'm pregnant it'll be fine to do that. Miss being fit much more than I miss alcohol.
  • I havent been able to run or ride my bike due to fatigue and nobody here to watch my LO. H and I used to take turns every night. We would put LO down for bed time then I would usually go get my workout in and he would leave once I got back. That was nice but not happening any more. I will only have T The and every other weekend to workout, this is when I wish we bought a jogging stroller and the IL lived closer so I could at least go for a walk but by the time I get home it's dinner, bath, bed for LO

Marathon runner here. I was mildly nauseous from the time I woke up until 3-4ish pm every day, so my morning runs were cut way back for the first 10 weeks or so. I kept going to my usual gym classes (spin, kickboxing & bootcamp) but reduced my intensity because I was just so exhausted!

The past 2 weeks, though, I've felt tons better and have been running a little more (in fact, at this very moment I am sitting in a van in the middle of a 200-mile Ragnar relay race with 11 teammates!). Except now I run an average of 15-20 mpw vs 30-40 mpw pre-pregnancy.

The only issue I've had is with the ab work section of my gym classes (10 minutes at the end). Lately, crunches, etc are just no longer comfortable so I kind of just slink out of class early. My instructor understands but I still feel odd about it.

No one has really given me a hard time but lots of people have questioned me about it.
  • I go to the gym the same amount of time - everyday . I just switch my weight to a little bit lighter one and in a spinning classes try not to loose my breath . I add swimming to my routine . And actually going to the gym brings my energy back . I'm 12 weeks didn't gain any weight so far. I still run ,but in much moderate paste . My doc said its ok as long as I been doing this before. I think any kind d exercises better then none. It's not only about weight gain but, recovery after the birth,. Remember mussle memory
  • I haven't been able to do a damn thing this first trimester. Every time I get my heart rate up, whether it's through cardio or body resistance, I get extremely ill. I'm going to stick with lighter weights, walking on a steep incline on the treadmill, yoga, and swimming once I can stomach it. I was enjoying those workouts the first 6 weeks. I did HIIT and weightlifting before and that's just not happening now.
