That's so funny I just started researching this yesterday. I decided against it because I'm too late in the game to start the actual regimen and by the time it got here I would be far behind. I was a little wary of the reviews only because a majority were second and third time births, where labor is notoriously shorter (about half the time) and easier. I also don't know the daily max of RRL and since I'm already drinking the 4 cups daily I didn't want to overdue it since it is in the pills as well.
Just a heads up, I have a "gentle birth" tincture with all the same ingredients (that I'm not using for the same reason above and it also tastes like buttholes) and it has a disclaimer on it that it can cause hypertension, so just something to keep in mind for the pills even though there's no mention of it!
TTC: 1/2014
BFP: 9/24

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
I'm late to the Dr Christopher's party too as I'm currently 36w however I plan to continue taking it after baby is born to help my uterus contract back down to size.
I'm also taking 600mg daily of Alfalfa for blood clotting, 1200mg of Evening Primrose Oil.
I read a study that had bad side effects of the black cohosh in those pills.... Said 2 infants had heart attacks?! Sounds crazy I know. I've looked into taking these..... But am just nervous.
Upon further digging, I found a write up on gentlebirth.org referencing the study but it appears to only single out Blue Cohosh and not Black. It's kind of long but here it is if you're up for reading it: https://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/blueCohosh.html
Christopher's Birth Prep contains only Black and not the Blue Cohosh according to my bottle.
So I busted out my The Natural Pregnancy Book by Dr. Aviva Romm and in the section Herbs for Late Pregnancy and Birth Preparation state that Black and Blue are not botanically related though commonly used together. Black helps to relax the cervix and uterine muscles, reduce blood pressure by dilating peripheral blood vessels, relieve irregular contractions and promote regular uterine contractions. It's included in late pregnancy tonics and can cause some side effects such as headaches, dizziness, and nausea but stops when discontinued use.
Blue on the other hand she states had been implicated in at least one if not possibly several incidences of newborn cardiac problems even within general recommended doses and in the last three weeks of pregnancy. It has however been used since the 1800 and 1900's for its effectiveness in prepping the uterine muscles for birth and stimulating contractions when women have gone past their due date. She goes on to state that it should only be used when left to qualified health professionals. Here's another link from her website stating the same in her book: https://avivaromm.com/herbal-medicines-in-pregnancy-safety
It seems some midwives are torn on the Blue Cohosh issue but I feel more comfortable taking Birth Prep knowing Blue is not included. Hope this helps some of you guys make your decisions!!
