33 weeks and baby hiccups

Hi everyone,
Freaking out a bit as for the past few days my baby has been hiccuping a lot about 4 times a day.
I was worried until I looked it up and although some sites say it's actually completely normal, others say that it is a huge sign that the baby may have the cord around and could be fatal. I am waiting to hear back from my nurse as I just called her, but want to know if anyone is going through the same thing or if anyone has answers.

Thanks

Re: 33 weeks and baby hiccups

  • My daughter has them 3-4 times daily and I'm
Having sonograms every 2 weeks due to her size and there is no cord around her neck.
  • Loading the player...
  • My baby's been having them quite a bit too and I've been having weekly ultrasounds for weight and cervix checks. She's fine other then the fact she's a peanut lol
  • So so so so common.

  • Yep if you search for the word hiccups you will find lots of posts on this.
  • Lots of previous discussions on this.. But you should not worry it's VERY normal and should happen.. Means baby, neurologically is doing what he needs to..
  • I already know the cord is around my baby's neck. My doctors reaction was ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It's pretty common and I imagine if it becomes an issue during labor they will do something about it. Fortunately oxygen is coming from the cord not the amniotic sac(nurses may correct me on that...)

A lot of babies are born with a nuchal cord. Most of the time dr just slips it off as baby is being born. It's doubtful that your baby's hiccups have anything to do with it.
  • Really really appreciate all the feedback. Baby is kicking as she usually does and all the responses here have helped me not worry about it. The nurse said hiccups are completely normal and is actually a sign of a healthy baby.
Thanks again and will keep everyone posted on my next visit as I will be having the growth ultrasound.
HAPPY MOTHeRS DAY to all! =)
  • baby boy has the hiccups at least 4 times daily :)
