Healthy Living Check in 5/3/15 (a day early)

Hi all!  Sorry I haven't posted this in a while, the last two weeks have been really bad for me.  My pregnancy is definitely ectopic :(  So I had the MTX shot last Wednesday.  I've also been trying to finish my huge term paper so I've been in a really bad place!  Starting to come back into the light and ready to get back on the healthy band wagon!!

1.  Something you are proud of

2.  Something you need to work on

3.  The plan

QOTW:  What is something you do to keep you mind and heart healthy?

Re: Healthy Living Check in 5/3/15 (a day early)

  • 1.  Something you are proud of

I've gained some weight over the past few weeks but I'm *trying* to be kind to myself about it.  I'm eating healthy when I can but allowing myself to eat CARBS and bad food when I want to.

    2.  Something you need to work on

I need to let the pitty party end and get back on track with eating and exercise.  I haven't worked out properly in over 2 weeks.

    3.  The plan

I'm going back on the zero belly diet on Tuesday (we're out of town this weekend and traveling back tomorrow).  And I'm going to start exercising again 5-6 days a week.  I'm having repeat c-scar surgery in June and will HOPEFULLY do our last fresh IVF cycle in August.  I would like to try to lose another 10lbs by then so I can know that I was in the best shape for my last shot at this.

QOTW:  What is something you do to keep you mind and heart healthy?
I love being around good friends, drinking wine with the same friends
:-*  I see my therapist regularly and try to plan family activities where we all get to enjoy each other's company.

I'm proud that I got back on track after being sick and eating junk for a week. I have worked out every day in May. ;) I did grocery shopping last weekend and bought so many fruits and veggies. About to go out and get some more for this week!

I need to work on varying my workouts. I've been running a lot (I got 22k steps yesterday!), but I really need to do more strength training. I did some Nike Fit stuff today and lifted, but I couldn't resist the urge to run a slow mile afterward and I know I need to be careful to avoid injuring myself.

The plan: to run 4-5 days a week and lift/strength train at least twice.

QOTW: I started scheduling with a therapist to work on anxiety and impulse control (e.g., reacting to even minor situations before I even think about them) and between that and getting healthy I'm feeling pretty good!

@Frenchteachermama I am so sorry this has been such a terrible roller coaster. Good for you for being able to eat healthy at all while you deal with everything. I think most of us would only eat the carbs/sugar. :) You are strong and amazing.
  • @Frenchteachermama - sending you so much love.  I think that you are doing such an amazing job and are such a strong person.  I would be throwing a pity party for months.  I love your dedication to healthy living.

@annibes - Sounds like you are on a roll!  When I do 2x a week strength training I notice that I get faster on my runs so hopefully it all helps!

  • 1.  Something you are proud of: I finished a 10 miler yesterday!  DH and I ran it and finished together in 1:41:21.  We didn't walk at all so I'm very proud of that.  Feeling it today though!

    2.  Something you need to work on: Now that I'm not training for a race I need to get a workout schedule in place (after this recovery week).  I struggle with fitting working out into my daily life if I don't have an event like a race to train for.

    3.  The plan: Recovery this week focusing on eating healthy and doing yoga 3x this week and then figuring out how to keep myself motivated to work out without an event to train for.

QOTW:  What is something you do to keep your mind and heart healthy? I see my therapist regularly, consistently take my Zoloft, and use the "Take a Break" app at work when things get really stressful and I need a quick breather.

@ellebelle2384 that's awesome! Congrats on your 10 miler! I did 5 miles last night for the first time in my life and I wanted to die. I'm so hungry today and quit putting into my food tracker because it got out of hand!

I think I need to check out this "take a break" app you mentioned..
  • @annibes - it's one of the free meditation ones I found and I like it because it's either 7 minutes or 13 minutes so it's not long at all.  I can manage 7 minutes locked in my treatment room at work! ;)

That's awesome! I've been doing deep breathing when I feel myself getting tensed up but I like the idea of taking a real break and meditating!
  • annibesannibes member
Also, why are we so stressed? I thought with our education and all the crap we went through in grad school, we'd at least be able to settle into careers without all the craziness. We need meditation breaks guaranteed in our contracts.
  • Seriously @annibes!  It's funny that I so love what we do but the environment (mostly my boss and her boss!) drive me crazy!

I am very proud of how far I have come. I am down 27.8 lbs since January. I need to work on weekend indulgences a bit more though :) My plan had been really watching carbs and calories and going to the gym. I have been busting my butt!

Edit because I forgot QOTW! I think my workouts help me the most. No matter how stressed or pissed off I am at whatever, I always feel good after going.
