Nickname help

I love the name Emaline for our LO and I think my husband does too. Our problem? He works in a school and knows too many kids with Emily, Emma, Em for names/nicknames and he is hesitant to use the name Emaline. What are some other nicknames we could use for Emaline so I can convince him we can use this name?!? Thanks for your help!

  • Oooh that's hard...E? Mal...Aline...you can use her middle name too. Or like combine the first letters of the first and middle name. Our daughters name is kalena Keira so KK. You can just test it out and see whatever rolls off your tongue nicely :)
  • What's the middle name?

    Emmie.

  • Lena? Ellie? or she might end up being the only Emma, etc. in her grade that year.

Out of 300 6th graders I have one Emma this year. That's not always the case though.

    I love Emmie.
  • I agree with PP, don't over think it. If you love the name use it and the nickname will come to you. I've never understood the appeal of coming up with a nickname in advance. Half the fun is seeing what fits your LO's personality! Plus, her nickname doesn't have to include part of her name. I had a childhood friend named Andrew and everyone called him Egg because he LOVED hard boiled eggs for lunch and would open them by cracking them on his head.

  • I agree with PP & that nicknames will unfold naturally. For example, my niece's name is Brielle & we call her Chich (she used to say chicken funny, so we started calling her Chich) no rhyme or reason, but it stuck.
It may also have something to do with the fact that my husband's family is big on nicknames & they each have a few to choose from that make little to no sense until you hear the back story
  • I have a student Emmeline who goes by Emme! It fits her nicely.
  • I was never a fan of nicknames. If you like a 'nick name' then why don't you put that as her first name on the birth certificate? For example, if you are going name your child 'Michael' but plan on calling him 'Mike', why not just put 'Mike' on his birth certificate?
  • @lilweenie Because Mike is not a proper name, Michael is. Mike would look horrible on a resume. Always give your child the option of a proper name.
  • What about Lenie?

If a job isn't going to give you an interview bc of your name, then they probably aren't a company worth working for.

  • It isn't that I want to create a nickname for her, I want some options to tell my hubby so he doesn't veto it because of the same nickname options. Our other daughter is Eloise so Ellie is out. We don't necessarily use nicknames but just to throw back at him when he uses hat argument. Lol. As for a middle name we aren't quite sure, I really like Emaline Violet (very good friends mom was Violet and she passed away a few months ago, and would love my girls to have the same initials, Eloise Victoria)
