Low progesterone

my doctor called today and is having me come in thursday to test my progesterone levels. He isn't concerned but since i miscarried in February he said he would check them for my piece of mind.

Anyone currently supplementing progesterone due to low levels or in past pregnancies? What were your symptoms?

I am hoping my levels are just fine and we don't need to supplement but will be grateful he caught it if they are low and need support. My current symptoms (4wks 3 days) are just some slight nausea and bloating/gassy. Other than that I feel pretty good.

I took the supplement with my previous pregnancy because my levels were borderline low. I also had had a previous loss, but have no idea if low progesterone contributed to it. If you do need to take it, you'll typically continue to take it until you're 12-13 weeks along. One word of caution: my morning sickness didn't really kick in until I started the supplement. But it certainly kept my peace of mind.

  • I went to my first doctors apt yesterday (5 wks 5 days). Because of low progesterone in previous tests while TTC, my doctor decided to run another blood test yesterday. But in the meantime, she started me on Progesterone shots just in case. My symptoms are sore breasts and some bloating. Hopefully my levels will be fine but better safe than sorry. I will find out in the next couple days!

Hopefully everything is ok with your levels as well :)

  • I'm on the Progersterone Suppositires because my fertility doc said my levels were a bit low...
  • I only wish my doctor would give it to me. This is my third pregnancy within a year. Hoping for a good number tomorrow when I go in for my second blood draw.
  • I got my blood draw today so I should know by tomorrow. I am Hoping they are ok and no need for the supplement but glad it is an option if necessary.

I had to start taking progesterone supplements today because my blood work showed low levels. No symptoms yet...
  • I did my bloodwork yesterday (4w4d) and the OB called tonight and said I have high hcg at 1924 but low progesterone at 4.4 so he recommended I take Crinone. I just picked up the prescription so I won't take it until the morning, but holy cow was it expensive! Anyone else have their insurance not cover much? I also had a miscarriage in Feb, so to me I want to do everything in my power to keep this baby going strong, but it definitely was a surprise how much money so that sucks cause now I'm stressed that hubby's mad it cost so much. :-/

My progesterone was at 12.69 at 4w2d and she wanted me to take progesterone to be safe I guess.  Supposedly insurance covered a lot, but it was still $75 for 1 month's worth!!

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I am currently using the crinone gel. Unfortunately I've miscarried twice since September and of course I decided to research some possibilities as to why. I discovered that I ovulate on day 20 and because it is late in my 28 day cycle it can be considered a Luteal Phase Defect. LPD doesn't necessarily allow your body the time it needs to produce the right amount of progesterone to support a pregnancy. With my first loss I had one bleeding episode at about 5 weeks but the pregnancy progressed for another couple of weeks and with my second loss I had a tiny bit of blood colored discharge around week 6. Both were missed miscarriages. From what I've researched, when your progesterone isn't high enough your uterine lining can begin to shed and that is what can cause bleeding. Your body basically thinks you are getting your period. Progesterone can only help so there is no harm in using it especially if it suspected that yours is low. With this pregnancy I started off by using the oral Prometrium 200mg once each night and decided I felt more comfortable with the crinone gel because it doesn't have to be processed by your liver and it goes directly to the uterus where it is needed. My doctor says either one is effective but after everything I'd read I felt more comfortable with the gel. It is definitely more pricey but if it does the job it is money well spent. ;)

The pills were making me dizzy, so my doctor said I can insert them vaginally instead if I want to... has anyone else ever done that??

  • What were your progesterone results? My doc just called and said mine were within normal range for 5 wks at 19.5. I trust him so I will stop worrying.
  • I just got my blood work back today and my progesterone was 15.5 and it should be at 20. So my OB is also putting me on a supplement that you insert vaginally. Good luck to you all

  • I needed the supositories last time but this time my progesterone was already at 85(!) at 15dpo so my OB thinks that I most likely have ovulated more than one egg because that's late 2nd tri level. The supositories aren't bad though so if you need them it's worth the slight hassle.
