To Caesar or not to Caesar, that is the real question!

Ok, so I've been seeing soo many mixed reviews about pregnant women eating Ceasar dressing due to raw eggs and anchovies. I've been craving a blackened shrimp Ceasar wrap for months now and I'm close to caving in. Has anyone eaten Ceasar dressing since finding out they were pregnant?

Yup. I don't see it as a big deal. Most places don't really use raw eggs anyways.

Raw eggs aren't the problem, it's the eggshell that's the problem. You could make the dressing yourself to avoid contamination (wash the egg before you crack it). If you make it yourself you don't have to use anchovies either. Most places use eggs that have been washed and the risk of contamination is really slim. I have no problem eating Caesar dressing.

  • I guess I have never even thought about that one. I've had a couple Caesar salads and the little guy is totally fine! I also eat cold sandwiches and basically everything else I'm not supposed to eat.
  • I haven't but like PP said you could always make the dressing yourself to be on the safe side or ask the restaurant how they do it if you're planning on take out. You should do whatever you're comfortable with.
  • I've had it a few times and everything is fine. I have pretty much eaten anything I want to though through this pregnancy. My doctor's point of view on it has been if it didn't make me sick before I got pregnant it's probably not going to get me sick all of a sudden now! So I roll with that :)

  • I do, most of the ones you will find in chain restraunts/bottles are pasteurized. I totally agree with @excited2bmommy09, heck people do worse things than east caesar dressing while pregnant.

  • I had a chicken caesar wrap for lunch today! Sweet pea and i enjoyed !! Go for it chick!
  • If the salad dressing isn't made on location then you're typically fine. I usually ask if I'm at a restaurant - most places don't make it themselves.
  • Well, I never ate Caesar Salad before getting pregnant and now it's all I want to eat, lol. Baby is doing just fine in there, so I wouldn't be too worried.
  • I've eaten it and enjoyed! Asking as it's pasteurized you will be fine :]
  • I've eaten it, no problems. Like other posters have said, most of the bottled Caesar dressings are pasteurized and therefore safe. I personally love anchovies and I checked to see if they're safe before chowing down, but they seem to be okay.

Man, now I want a salad!

Three of the places I asked said they used raw egg. I ate it anyway. I couldn't hold anymore. I'm not dying and babe was kicking away. I've read the most ridiculous stuff of what not to eat while pregnant. I swear they want you to own your own farm to be able to eat while your pregnant.
  • Mmm they've been one of my go to staples. All baby wants is crunchy green salad, it's ridiculous. Well, salad, green smoothies, French fries and ice cream. To be fair, though, that's pretty much what I could live off of in my non-pregnant world.
  • I absolutely love Caesar salads and finally caved for the spicy chicken one at Wendy's. I've gotten it like three times since prego and didn't get sick. I won't order it in front of my BF because he knows I'm not supposed to and gives me a look. Lol
  • I've had Caesar a few times and I've never once read we couldn't eat it

Lol I didn't even know this was a thing...I've had it quite a few times and babe is lookin good!
  • Just ask the restaurant if you're worried. Most restaurants will list on the menu, and the waiter/ess can always ask the kitchen if the dressing has unpasteurized eggs in it. A lot of places use pre-made dressing, or use pasteurized raw eggs which wouldn't be dangerous
  • This post killed me! A blackened chicken Ceasar wrap sounds pretty much like the only thing I want to eat right now...but alas I can't. Oh well, there's always next the meal...

But yes, I have had a few Ceasar salads since and so far so good. Also, it was here in France where the dressing I'm pretty sure was homemade (I didn't know until after that this dressing was on the "no no" list), so having it there in the States, I think you'll be okay. : )
    Bon appétit!
  • I'd go for it! Salad has been a constant craving for me. I had a blue cheese and balsamic wedge salad with dinner earlier, and it was the best part of my meal! I had never had a wedge with both dressings before; it rocked my socks!
