tired an dont want to work

I'm 32. Weeks and can't get over how tired I am. An really dont want to be at work.
When is everyone calling it quits at work?

Re: tired an dont want to work

  • I'm 32 weeks and have to take this week off doctors orders and get reevaluated next Tuesday. I'm reAlly enjoying time off even though it makes me nervous about babys health
Don't know if this has to continue thru the rest of pregnancy or not. Otherwise I'll probably work until delivery if I do go back

  • This reminds me of the song they sing in Jaws "I'm tired an I want to go to bed, I had a drink about an hour ago and it went straight to my head"
  • please go check the daily symptoms thread, too many people are posting new threads about being tired, its getting annoying and repetitive. its all in caps, please go check that.
  • I'm 32 weeks and have been watching the clock from the second I get in til I think its a "reasonable" time to head home... today its in 30 mins... BUT I also loathe this job and sent in my resignation yesterday morning. (I have another job lined up that will take me on and the do a paid maternity leave and let me work from home 3-4 days a week when I come back) So now the struggle to be here while tired is even harder!!

  • I'm stopping work next week at week 36. But trust me I wish I could take it now. Feet and hands get swollen throughout the day, it's worse at night, and I'm tired all day long regardless of a nap or how much sleep I get. Hang in there! We can do it!
  • I'm 34 weeks and still working full time. They have a replacement for me to take over for my maternity leave from June 15. I'm due June 21. If I have to take off sooner for medical reasons or early labor, my boss will have to cover for me until they can find a PRN SLP willing to work in this depressing small town. I'm fine with the baby coming early but want to make it until early June, June 15 if possible! Not just because it would cause trouble for my boss, but also for my baby's health and extra $$$. We earned $3000 more than we spent last month and I would love to keep working through May and save $3000 more. We're gonna need it!

I'm planning to work until I pop (I'm 36 weeks) but every day I keep wondering if it's even worth it. I've mentally checked out and it is probably quite obvious. Plus I'm not returning after but they don't know that. I'm scared if I'm honest I wouldn't get short term disability.

I will be working up to the day. With my first, I put in a full day and had my son at 9:45pm. I don't want to cut it that close but it was nice saving all of my FMLA for after baby.
  • My plan was to work until I hit my due date, but I'm starting to think about leaving at 39 weeks. That last week might be nice to get mentally prepared. I'm not sure what I'll do. I've got a substitute teacher who has agreed to take over my lessons for the month of June, and I'm sure she wouldn't mind doing the last week of May as well. I just have to decide if I think it's worth it. I wish I could stop now, but I don't think being tired and sick of work is a good enough excuse for me to stop working. I would feel guilty for not bringing in money when I know I'd be able to.

  • I'm done now at 33 weeks. Just wanted time to get things accomplished, be relaxed. Work was going through a stressful transition and I didn't want to spend my time that way.

Same here, I'm not planning on coming back to my job either but if I tell them that I'm pretty sure I won't qualify for any type of disability. Just hoping there isn't any sort of backlash in fees. Tomorrow is my last day Drs orders. I'll be 35 weeks and 1 day

I'm 32 weeks now and right there with you guys with the major fatigue. Outside of that, I'm not too thrilled about work these days anyway. On that note I'm starting fmla at 36 wks and counting down the hours until I can start. I would love to have more time with the baby, but I really haven't had the energy to do anything after work and want to make sure everything is nice and ready for baby. It will also be nice for my back when I don't have to sit at at a desk all day!!

I'm working until I can't work anymore (until I have her lol). This week I am working 7 days straight, which I never do, but someone needed some days covered and now I'm regretting commiting to work lol. I usually work four 9.5 hour shifts so I'm tired and of course this would be the one week I'm sick with a sore throat and such, but only 3 more days and I get a day off so I can do it :) I'm 35 weeks and 1 day so hopefully I won't have to work too much longer...I'm ready for my baby girl!!
  • Im 35 weeks today and first day of leave. My feet were swelling horribly at work from sitting most of the time. Today, little to no swelling! Feels great!

    Ahhh I can't wait!
  • I'm a medical resident and have been working 16 hour night float, six on and one off. No matter how much I'm up at night I can only manage to stay asleep ~3 hours during the day. For financial reasons I really want to work up until I deliver as well as for not delaying my training at the end. I did see my doctor today to make sure things weren't progressing too fast (I'm 36+3) and I won't lie I was a bit bummed she thought I would do fine continuing to work! But since I have no excuses I will continue to trudge on...just hope I'm not too tired to push when she does decide to arrive! I'm so jealous of you ladies taking time off.

Next week is my last week!!!!! Per husbands orders though. I am 37 weeks and I'm a hair stylist so I'm on my feet walking around bending over at the shampoo bowl all day. It will be nice to relax soon!
  • I'm planning to work until I go into labor, but secretly wish my doc would tell me to stop soon. It would be nice to get to start leave early! I'm 33+1

I plan on working until Baby P comes.  My job is pretty flexible so I am going to start to work from home full time on June 1st until she comes (due June 11).  I have been working at home 2-3 days a week already and it is so nice to be able to be comfortable!  It's hard for me to just sit at my desk all day long so I am thankful for the WAH option.

Just a PSA - if you plan to take early leave (like before delivery) please make sure you read up on your company's policies and procedures.  My company complies with FMLA standards, which means that they will hold my job for me for exactly 12 weeks.  I can take those 12 weeks as i see fit.  But that means that if i was to take 2 of the weeks before delivery, i'd only be able to take 10 weeks afterwards.  Even if i had a doctor's note, this would be the case.  In that situation, i'd be entitled only to the amount of leave that was medically necessary and covered under my short term disability plan (generally 6-8 weeks after birth) plus however many weeks of FMLA i had remaining.  This is, unfortunately, pretty standard leave policy in the US.

Of course, if i wasn't planning to return to work, or if my employer voluntarily told me they'd hold my job for longer than 12 weeks, it would be another story.  but i have a desk job, so it's not completely awful having to be there for 8 hours a day.  My boss is very flexible about working from home, so i may start to do that in the last week or so depending on how uncomfortable i am.

I'm a teacher and my last day of work is June 5th. EDD is June 18th, so I'm planning on working until the end, although I'm taking 2 days off in between now and then. One for an ultrasound and another because it's field day, and I'm not walking around in the heat and humidity all day (I live in south Texas).
  • I just went on Fmla at 35 weeks. I needed to continue working until 39 weeks. But I couldn't last on my feet all day & co-workers had started to help me do my job. The supervisors didn't approve of that so I decided to go ahead and take leave. Unfortunately, I cant start receiving my short term disability until after the the baby is born & after that it is still a 14 day waiting period. Smh #aflac
  • I'm beat by the end of the work day, but plan to work til labor. Unless we schedule an induction at 41 weeks, then I'll take off the day before. When I had my son I took off 1 week before due date, but was induced at 41 weeks, so I wasted 2 weeks of fmla. Looking back I wish I would have toughed it out til the end and had more time at the end.
  • If you asked me last month I would've said I'm counting down the seconds, I'm feeling much different about it now. My last planned day is May 21st, and I'm due June 8th. I'm feeling unprepared to leave because I don't think at the current moment the clinic can run effectively without me. I'm not feeling as beat as I was a few weeks ago, but definitely am having a harder time sleeping/moving/focusing.

I think working until you pop is good, because you're being active and such. I'm worried about going stir crazy for two weeks before the baby arrives. That said, I also think it's important for me to have the two weeks because there are things I literally have no time to do to prepare for the baby with my current schedule.

I am 36 weeks and work 12 hour night shifts as a nurse. I am having the same problem. I intend on working up until delivery but it is becoming more and more challenging to get through the each shift. The physical demands are becoming too much for me. I want to take leave sooner but I don't want to sacrifice time with my baby.
  • I am almost 33 weeks and plan on working up until my due date. I drive 60 miles one way to work and then work 12 hour shifts. I was supposed to be transferred closer to my house before the baby but that's been pushed back to after maternity leave. I am not happy about this bc I may not be able to work up to 40 weeks. If I went into labor during the day it could take me 1.5 hours to get to my hospital. My job isn't that physically demanding but I'm soooo swollen by the end of the day.
  • I'm due June 7th and my last day of work is May 23rd. I'm a hair stylist and I'm on my feet all day. By the time I get home, my feet and ankles are so swollen and I'm so tired. Standing and walking around all day also makes me feel crampy. I don't know if I'll be going back to work after my maternity leave because I don't want to put my baby in daycare and my SO just got a new job so we can't work opposite schedules like we originally planned. But that's ok! I want to use my time as a SAHM to finish earning a degree. :)
  • @megtyrrell I'm a hair dresser too and I'm due the 10th and taking off the 23rd too! I've thought about doing the same thing . I'm also super crampy and my feet kill me at the end of the day. I'm thinking about taking off work sooner now. It's killing me , I can barely rinse color out in the sink anymore! Haha

I'm 36 weeks and I've been tired for so long. Doesn't help that I have a very active job and I am on my feet all day.
I still have 2 weeks of work left :(

Everyday before I go in I lay on my bed and moan then reluctantly drag my ass in 10 min late.

I had planned to work until 37 weeks and was feeling well, although my doctor pulled me off and put in medical leave at around 32 weeks.
  • I'm working up until due date but am fortunate to work week 39 from home. I wish I could just go on leave now, at 36 weeks! I'm not tired per se but it hurts to sit, stand and walk, sooooo....
