Post Partum smell and achiness- an "is this normal to you" post

I was a May 1ster who turned into an April month club on the 29th. Forgive me if this has been asked.

I've got a strange odor down there that's gross to me and I called my OB worried about infection. The nurse called back and said the doctor thinks it's just the smell of blood and mucus and to watch out for fever and uterine cramping.

Knock on wood, neither of those, but my bleeding seems heavier than it had been a few days ago and my vagina is throbbing. I don't want to call back unless this sounds unusual. Does it sound typical?

Another post was talking about bright red bleeding being bad. I have that, too. ???

If this sounds normal, how long does it last?

I got an infection in my 3rd degree tear and there wasn't a smell but there was a different discharge coming in addition to the blood. It was a yellow'ish gray color (TMI, I know, but you asked haha). I mostly noticed it while wiping (well, lightly patting) since I was bleeding so much all the time. It was also getting even more painful down there by the day.

  • I noticed an unpleasant odor around week 3 postpartum that lasted 3-4 days. I just made sure to take extra baths and care. If you think something is still wrong after a few days I'd call your Dr. back and ask to be seen.

  • The odor is normal, I was worried about that too. I had my son 5 weeks ago, it goes away. Just clean clean clean and it will help you feel a little fresher until it subsides, I was constantly cleaning and freshening up, you're still full of pregnancy hormones you're sense of smell is gonna be sharp for awhile, mine still is!

  • Coco118 What did they do to treat you?

@ladyteach0505 10 days of antibiotics (Keflex), bed rest for one week (the infection caused my lady parts to swell, bursting the stitches), and packing the wound twice daily with gauze soaked in sodium chloride. I've had a miserable first few weeks in other words, haha.

Also I never got a fever or cramping (beyond what I'd get from breastfeeding in the beginning) so I wouldn't just wait for those signs. If you have an odor and your pain isn't improving, insist on being seen. I waited too long to be seen because I figured it was just how recovery felt, and that's how my infection got so bad that my stitches burst and I ended up in bed rest.
  • Sitz bath with warm water 3 times a day will ease the pain for you a day at a time
