weird leg/hip pain

I have this weird leg/hip pain that is sudden almost like a catch where the top of my leg connects to the bottom of the pelvis/hip

Has anyone else had this? Is it worth mentioning to the Dr or will he just say its a pregnancy thing deal with it?

Re: weird leg/hip pain

  • It may be the baby sitting on the sciatic nerve. You can certainly ask about it, but it's likely to be a pregnancy thing.

  • I woke up with it one morning and it was so bad that it caused me to limp. I went out and got a pregnancy pillow that day. I haven't had that problem again since, but that initial pain did take several days to completely go away.

Ouch! That doesn't sound like sciatic nerve pain. I'd see a chiropractor for that one. The hip ball may be out of socket if your leg is connecting with the hip bone.

  • I have those quite often. Very painful! I am at peace, because I've been diagnosed with sciatica, by the time I was 16, so I know pregnancy doesn't make it any better. I would suggest you to mention it to your OB/Doctor, they can prescribe you physiotherapy, if needed. It will make a world of difference.
    Hope you'll feel better soon.

I've suffered so bad with this! I've mentioned it to my consultant an midwife and got told it's just your hip losening making room for the baby and that is common, I've got told If mine doesn't go away to have physio on them, I've bought a pillow but it's not done me any good! :( good luck!
  • It's probably your SI joint. I've talked about this on countless posts around here, but for me it was caused by my pelvic bones being misaligned (thanks to DS1). It would drop me to my knees in tears. My OB sent me to physical therapy for it and it has helped tremendously. I actually got released last week after 3 months of PT. They taught me a number of exercises to do to counteract the misalignment. For continued stability I do a lot of squats and planks to strengthen my pelvic and ab muscles. It's definitely not something you have to live with because you're pregnant. If you're able to find a PT that specializes in pregnant women I would highly suggest you seek their assistance.

It could be pain due to pubic symphysis, from which I some days suffer. You can search it online. I'm on my phone, so I can't post any links right now.
