Male Fertility Issues..

Hello Ladies!!!!
I decided to open this discussion because although I've read some personal stories about the struggle with MFI, I feel like it hasn't really been discussed that much on here. As some of you may know, my husband and I have been struggling with this issue for 3 years. We've had two failed IUI and just don't know what to do anymore. A lot of people have advised us to go the IVF route but right now that just isn't an option for us. What has been your experience? What treatments have u decided on? Supplements? Accupuncture?  Amount of abstinence days to improve count and motility? Timing on fertility drugs, trigger shots, procedures? Any success? Please share ur experiences. I know it would be easier to read them on one post instead of searching through them all.

Re: Male Fertility Issues..

  • I don't know much in this area since all of our fertility issues lie with me (PCOS). But I have read a lot about men having success with Maca (a natural supplement). I've also read a lot about improving general lifestyle things, like increasing exercise, cutting back caffeine, alcohol, eating organic, reducing stress (by doing yoga, mediation, etc.). I wish I could offer more but that's all I know in this area. Good luck!

Thanks @jilligan14!! I've also heard great things about Maca. I'm trying to put together a list of supplements and suggested amounts. I thknk that will help a great deal. DH is a health freak. Sometimes I think the amounts of exercise and heat exposure could also be affecting him. RE didn't find any specific cause for his MFI. I also suffer from PCOS but according to RE that could be fixed with fertility drugs, monitoring for follies and ovulation timing. They have concentrated more on my DH's MFI.

  • I posted on the thread on infertility, but will respond here as well. We had the same issue, went to a urologist who prescribed clomid. That had a small increase from 10 million to 25 million.  We then stopped the clomid and tried acupuncture with Chinese herbs.  At my last iui we had 135 million. I can't say it will work for everyone, but it worked for my husband.
    Me 38 DH 40
    TTC since Dec 2010.
Diagnosed anovulatory, HSG clear. Slight MFI- borderline count, but excellent motility and morphology
    Nov. 12- Feb.13 Gonal F + Ovidrel + IUI = BFN
Lap April 13. Found blocked tube and bridged fimbria. Opened tube and cut fimbria. All clear
June 13  Gonal F+ Pregnyl +IUI = BFN Stopped treatment with RE due to side effects from drugs and told we needed IVF.
Oct. 13 started Accupuncture and Chinese herbs- being monitored by RE. Getting better response- e2 and follie size.
Now RE says TI till March, then IUI. Fingers crossed,

    All welcome
  • I asked my H about any other lifestyle things he thinks he has done that may contribute to his high sperm count. He just said he's always worn loose boxers and loose pants (no jeans) and that he sits at the edge of chairs so that everything can "hang over" - hahaha. Anyway, this might seem super silly but I figured every little bit of info helps, right? I'd also look online as there's lots of info about foods to eat and exercises to do, etc.

  • The book "making babies" has a chapter devoted to diet and supplements that includes directions for men as well. I hope this helps with your journey!!
