Best Piece of Non-Maternity Maternity Clothes

Now that the weather's finally getting nice in the northeast, I tried on one of my favorite skirts last week: a jersey fold-over skirt from Old Navy. It's always been one of my favorites because it's easy and super comfortable, and because it's jersey, it' STILL super comfortable, even though I'm 29 weeks pregnant. I actually just ordered two more online, in different colors, because it's so comfy (like wearing yoga pants to work) and I think will become my go-to until July-baby arrives. And the best part is that I could order it in my normal size, and will be able to keep wearing them post-pregnancy.

I know we're getting late enough that most of us are pretty well stocked up on maternity clothes, but given the weather changes, I'm definitely going to be getting a few more things to tide me over, so I thought I'd pass this along!

  • Yes! I have some jersey fold over skirts from Gap, they are a fabulous pregnancy go to.

    Maxi dresses are amazing too!

  • Yes!! Maxi dresses and skirts are my best friend now that the weather is warm! None of them are actually maternity, but they def work. So stretchy and comfy!! :-)

I don't need much more in terms of clothes, but I'd like to get a maxi dress for my shower (and the rest of the summer) and two or three more tops. I have a few non-maternity tops that have been working so far, but that are starting to get too small.
  • @kladd7182 I agree! Naked is the natural way :)
  • Lol...I am most comfy named too! As soon as I get home of come the pants and sometimes I'm just walking around in my panties and sometimes a t-shirt! My hubs laughs but I just can't stand cloths touching me right now! I'm huge and I could care less! Naked is the way to go! So much cooler too!!!
  • I fit in all my normal clothes still but man do I love my maxis they are my go to in this eternal summer.

  • I've noticed a lot of the portofino tops are really in style. They are loose and flowy and many are sold to be worn with leggings so they are long enough to cover my bump! I found a few on sale at Charlotte Russe and Rave. They're teen stores but the L-XL fit great!!

Seems like the hippie-coachella styles are really kind to those with bumps! Love the long, flowy, light tops

I only got 2 pregnancy jeans, 1 bra and 3 shirts, everything else is non pregnancy clothes and maxi dresses are my best friends right now. I'm not into tight clothes anyway so most of my non pregnancy shirts fit perfectly, and I also had 2 Bras that I wear when I got my period that are a D cup because my breasts get really swollen so they fit perfectly right now! I figured that spending a lot of money in pregnancy clothes is just not worth it.

I have bought a lot of Free People things because their clothes tend to be very wide and flowy.

I am NOT with you on maxi dresses. Maybe someone has some tips for me. I thought it would be so great now that the weather is warm but all of a sudden my thighs touch, and I am experiencing a new sensation of chaffing between my legs if I am not wearing pants. It is awful. By the end of the day I am walking like there is a beach ball between my legs.
Take it from a girl who has never had a thigh gap, a little deodorant/antiperspirant on the inner thigh goes a LONG way

@audi681 I'm already walking like a penguin and sitting like a boy so I haven't had any issues with it haha

Wishing I read this earlier as I'm painfully walking around in my maxi skirt #-o

Clothes? Who needs clothes? Being naked is the best way to go, and it should be socially acceptable for all pregnant women to be naked.

    Just yes. So much yes.
  • Completely agree with you about the thigh issue! I got a pair of maternity spanx (motherhood has their own brand too) and those solve the problem....and gives me support for my belly at same time!
  • Ugg. I am not looking forward to the heat. My thing is not the thing but when I don't have a bra on, the sweaty creepy feeling of my boobs touching my belly. Ugg. I hate that sensation!
  • I fit in all my normal clothes still but man do I love my maxis they are my go to in this eternal summer.

You still fit in your normal clothes? You didn't have to buy maternity clothing? That's awesome. I have just discovered the maxi dress, never wore them before but damn it feels good.

I've bought some purely for the fact that they are more like yoga pants but ya I only have two pairs of maternity shorts and a few shirts. Out of three kids I only had to buy maternity clothes for one other two I wore my normal clothes throughout.

Naked with my maternity support belt!! ;)
  • Just beware the dresses won't fit right after you're not pregnant anymore! The bump stretches them out and they're weird and baggy in the belly. I had several non maternity dresses I wore the first go round and kind of ruined them all!

Monistat anti-chafing gel is amazing, it's the only way I can wear skirts/dresses.

  • GapBody leggings! They are super soft and sit below the belly. I wear maternity scrubs at work so when I'm home or asleep, I don't want to wear bottoms that have the full panel!

I have a couple pairs of cotton bicycle shorts from forever 21. They work wonders and don't have to worry about exposing yourself when sitting like a boy.
