Mother's Day

So does anyone have any plans for Mother's Day? Sweet things you know your DH or SO are planning for you?

I remember being very excited last Mother's Day, but DH apparently doesn't it count it as a holiday.... (found that out that evening when I was grumpy I didn't even get a card or flowers).

So I'm not expecting anything this year, although I did hint that flowers and breakfast would be fantastic. We'll see what happens

Same here, @smushi! Nothing at all last year and I pretended that I didn't care. But I did. So, a few weeks ago, I told him that my feelings were hurt and that I'd appreciate if we celebrated this year. So. We shall see. I am keeping my expectations low.

I want to keep it low-key. I don't want Mothers Day to become one of those stressful holidays where we're running around trying to visit everyone. I told DH that flowers and a card would be great. And maybe a family hike.

Daycare made this cute little painting out of LO's hands! I opened it and he put his hand on the spot where his painted hands were, it was so cute

I asked to sleep in and for breakfast in bed. That's all I want and DH works Sundays, so that's all I will get lol. Last year DH bought me flowers since it was my first Mother's day.

Last year DH made me breakfast in bed and got me a gift certificate for a salon. Still haven't used it... Too hard to get time to do it! This year our family is doing brunch at my parents house so I don't think DH is planning anything.

Last year I was dramatic (hormones maybe ;-)) and made sure he knew he needed to do something special haha... He got me flowers and a gift card to a spa which was great. This year I just told him I wanted to go out for brunch.... So he made us reservations.

We don't live that close to either of our families so it will always just be us on Mother's Day.

I sent my mom a gift and dh is taking his mom on a trip in June, so they are taken care of.

I don't think we'll do anything. My son made a card in preschool and at the library story time, so he's excited to give those to me. Dh stinks at gifts and doesn't plan ahead very well without my help, so I doubt there will be anything. We will go to church that morning as usual, and ds is excited to sing a Mother's Day song there with the other kids.

I'm guessing dh will be extra helpful because he'll feel bad for not doing anything, so I'm kind of looking forward to that, lol. It's not a big deal to me, I get to be with my kids

We are going to a family brunch. I told DH that I wanted the 21 Day Fix workout dvd to help "fix" what becoming a mother did to my body lol. And I told him that on Mother's Day I would not be doing any cleaning, picking up after etc...it is my day off from being the maid! I'm sure he will get me a card from him and the kids too.

All i asked for is to sleep in, an uninterrupted breakfast where i can finish my coffee without reheating and maybe a relaxing shower. No gifts necessary!

This is my DH too. I try not to mind, but it does bother me because for me the best part of a gift or special day is the thought that went into it. He and I need to learn how to navigate this well.

We live in the same town as my in laws, so I asked DH if we could do Mother's Day with them tonight so I could have him and LO all to myself tomorrow. So, they came over for dinner (that DH grilled, so I didn't cook...bonus points!). Tomorrow we're going to get flowers to plant in our window boxes, which I look forward to every year. AAAAND DH surprised me with a bottle tree to put by our firepit in the backyard. I've been hinting I want one for forever, and sweet lil DH listened and had a friend of our who welds make me one. It's awesome! I'm so excited!

Well Dh surprised me! Today while I was at work he and the kids went and got me a new dress and earrings for Mother's Day tomorrow. So surprised.

I forgot it was Mother's Day when we decided to go on vacation. Now I will be in the car driving for 15 hours. I just hope DS sleeps a lot! ;-)

DH used to be great at planning things for me, but this has declined over the years... I was told a few days ago to not expect flowers because they are a waste.... I did get a nice card

I don't know if this is the right thread for this, but I just wanted to share an observation from today. DH and I took the kiddos to their swimming lessons today. The community centre had set out bagels and cream cheese for Mother's Day. I imagine the idea was that the bagels were for the moms. I had a bit of a laugh to myself as I prepared bagels for my kids - typical that I'm doing this for the kids and then spending time to help two littles eat. I then watched the table and saw mother after mother prepare bagels for their kids.

Isn't that just what we all do? Take care of our kids first. And although we'd all love a break and some pampering, we love taking care of our kids. I imagine we'll be getting them their bagels first for the rest of our lives

I hope everyone had a good day yesterday! DH took care of LO during the night and went out and got us breakfast. He and LO went to down for naps early (hah), and I had 2 hours to myself for some Netflix. Then he took LO for a walk in the afternoon and brought us back dinner.

Talk about a huge turnaround from last year!

Of course, that meant LO had to remind me at 4am this morning that I am indeed a mom, by waking up 2 hours early, nursing fest, and then puking all over me and the (newly cleaned) bed, not once but 3 times, and then again all over himself and his new carseat on the way to daycare. Thankfully he seems to be better now but still isn't really eating food (just nursing and napping). And of course DH left early this morning for all day meetings lol.

LO is napping, and I *may* have rented 50 Shades of Grey. It's about as bad as the book.
