Frequent fetal hiccups

Hello, I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I've noticed that my baby has had hiccups maybe 5 times already today.

I'm starting to feel horrible. Poor thing must be sick of it.

I'm also wondering if this is a concern? Is it normal for her to be having so many hiccups a day?
Anything I can do to prevent it?

Re: Frequent fetal hiccups

  • I don't think it's a big deal but I'd call your provider tomorrow and ask if you're worried.

My little guy has them twice a day.

  • My baby gets them between 3 and like 7 times a days and has been for 6 months. My ob said baby doesn't even notice them and that it's a good sign of activity and it's no big deal.
  • My Baby gets them probably 5 times a day and sometimes for 15 minutes! My OB did not sound worried at all and said that it's completely normal! I guess it's the baby's lungs developing! I could feel mine as early as like 28 weeks!
  • Same as above. 5 or more times a day, lasting a good while each time. Dr said it was fine and not to worry as well. I love em. Helps me kinda picture where he is based on the location.

Don't Google this! I did and of course they give you the worst case scenario that's probably happened once or mayyyyybe twice in history. I like when the baby hiccups bc you can tell where baby's head is :)
  • My baby did like 5-7 times a day before she was born, and now that she's here it's like she keeps the hiccups. They don't seem to bother her, so I guess it's alright. :)
  • I definitely need to stay away from Google because I did read something that slightly freaked me out.
    Thank you all!

This. Oh this. I posted on here many times freaked the hell out because of what I'd read online. My baby hiccuped more than five times a day- very scary! Now that she's here I can tell you she hiccups as much or more. Pediatrician says it's all good. Wish I could have relaxed during pregnancy about this.
  • Both of my pregnancies, my babies had hiccups 5-7 times a day, my first is three now, no issues. This one was due last weekend and I suspect she'll be just fine too. Its just the diaphragm spasming, no biggie.
  • It's from practicing breathing- completely normal! Hiccups don't bother babies
  • They don't seem to phase them. My son had them the sane time each night and then kept them at that time after birth for a week or two. It was like a sweet reminder and much less painful than the big kicks late in pregnancy!
  • My little girl seems to always have the hiccups. I asked my ob, he said it's a good sign, she's getting stronger. I love to feel the little hiccups. :P
