What's the best brand for basal body thermometer?

Hey ladies,

So I've been temping since November and originally bought a basal body thermometer off of Amazon. It didn't have the beep-when-finished function and the instructions said to wait until 4 minutes. I'd set a timer but it was extra movement before taking the temp and 4 minutes just seemed excessively long. So I went to CVS and bought a $10 basal thermometer, which claimed to beep within one minute! Well, it turns out it doesn't beep until 4 sometimes 5 minutes! Is this normal? I sometimes wake up really early so take my temp then and there's been a few times I've fallen back asleep with the thermometer in my mouth. Also, this may seem super silly, but I can never figure out the right position to put it in. I take it orally but sometimes it shifts and starts to slide out of position. I guess it's hard holding it under my tongue for 5 minutes. I'm still getting pretty steady temps and not wild, crazy patterns, but I just find it tough holding it for so long.

Any suggestions? Favorite brands? Advice on tongue placement?

    I haven't temped in eons, but when I did I switched to the Mabis brand and found it much more reliable.  I would lay down on my side and prop the thermometer on a pillow to keep it from moving around under my tongue.   You also might try vaginally temping, although I did fall back asleep a lot when doing it that way, plus you don't hear the beep well if you have a blanket over you.

    I also use Mabis. I haven't had any issues with it.

    I have the CVS one too and keep falling asleep as well. I've now seen a lot of people people suggest Mabis. It's cheap on Amazon, I think I'm going to go for it. Hopefully it is better for both of us!

    @GoldenKeys thanks for the suggestions! I propped the thermometer against a pillow this morning and it helped stay in place. I'll definitely look into a Mabis. Does it take super long to register?

    I have a Nexcare that I use vaginally. Been using it for over a year and am satisfied with it, so far.

    No, it takes about 2 minutes to register!  Definitely worth it...
