Kick Counts

It is so hard for me to sit for two hours and count every movement, and I'm suppose to do this once a day? Ugh, does anyone have something that could help me? Our girl is very active, the one time I counted her movements it was like 20 in either 1/2 an hour or an hour.

My OB told me that I only need to count until I get to 10. Last night that took 3 minutes, haha, but sometimes it takes closer to a half hour. Try counting after eating, or drink a cold, sweet drink and lay on your side for a bit.

  • From my understanding, you don't have to wait two hours. If she kicks 10 times in 15 minutes then that's what you chart; that it took 15 minutes for her to kick 10 times. What I read was that they like for you to try and do it around the same time of day that you notice the most activity. It's easy for me because I have a desk job so yesterday I felt him wake up and move so I looked at my clock, wrote down the time I felt the first move, counted 10 movements and then wrote down the time I felt the 10th. :) If during her most active time of day it takes her more than 2 hours to move 10 times, that's when they want you to make the phone call just to be on the safe side :)
  • My doctor didn't mention doing regular kick counts.  I wouldn't lay down to do one unless I noticed less movements than usual.

  • Yeah, you can stop once you get to 10. You don't have to wait the full two hours! I usually do it before bed, when I'm lying in bed catching up on FB or Instagram or whatever before I fall asleep. She is most active at night anyway. One time my husband Was actually able to count movements while I was asleep!

As soon as you get to 10 kicks, you stop. If it took over 2 hours to get those 10 kicks, then you need to call hospital and go in.

My ob said I didn't have to get crazy with sitting and counting.  He said that as long as Im feeling the same amount of movement every single day, that is enough.  He also said that if any day I dont feel as much movement to call.
