measuring too small? anyone same problem or heard this before? help a woman get some rest!

So I'm about to be 32 weeks. Had a doc appointment today and she said that I'm measuring too small? She made me schedule a ultrasound asap. I can't sleep and I keep thinking about it. I don't have diabetes. All my lab work is normal baby kicks A Lot and I feel fine. Had anyone got told the same?

  • I get comments about my decent weight loss a lot but they have not been measuring me, can't wait for that.

  • Yes, our baby has been measuring small since 19 weeks and we just found out today that she is now getting more behind then she was before so we go in once a week for ultrasounds and twice a week for stress tests. It really depends. Sometimes it can be because you are small stature (shouldn't be too small/behind though), it could be a chromosomal thing but usually they catch that earlier then you are now, placenta problem, and it could even be problems that you might have such as gestational diabetes (it can go both ways/big or small baby) or asthma, high blood pressure, it just depends. I wouldn't worry too much about it until you get more information. This next ultrasound will give you and your doctor a better idea about how your baby is growing. They probably will just monitor the baby more now. Good luck :)

My belly measured 2 inches (or whatever unit they use) small at my 26 week appt, doc decided to wait two weeks for my next appt and measure again. If I was still small, she was gonna do an ultrasound. Turned out I measured fine next appt and doc said it was prob just baby's position. She tends to stick to the right side of my belly, esp when I lay down, and they measure down the middle. I'd measures fine before and have measured fine since. It could very well just be positional, who knows.
  • Our baby is almost a week behind and measuring at 15% (if 50% is average).  She's really small!  I was super stressed about it when I first heard at 19 weeks.  Her growth hasn't picked up at all.  These days, I tend to think that I conceived a week late.  Baby is perfectly healthy.  She's either small because she'll be a pipsqueak all her life, or she's a week younger than the doctors think she is.  My due date is 7/15 but I'm expecting her 7/22.  Best of luck to you and rest easy!!

My belly looks the same as when I was 5 months with my son, I'm 29 weeks. Still, I have a normal quantity of amniotic fluid and baby is actually a little big. I still have a waistline if you see me from behind! So don't worry, have you ever seen "I didn't know I was pregnant"? There's a lot of girls who don't even have a pregnant looking belly, even being skinny, and the baby is fine.
  • I've been measuring small as well. Doc thinks I'm about a week behind but we haven't changed my due date yet. I wouldn't worry too much at all.
  • at 19 weeks, my baby girl was in 14th percentile. now at 30 weeks, she was in 7th percentile.
so i get one US a week and two nst tests. i also worry. like you, no diabetes, no signs of anything bad: she kicks a lot, her heartbeat is good, all the lab work is normal.

  • I've been measuring small since 20 weeks. My baby is in the 9th percentile and we have been going in every couple weeks for sonograms. The dr told me to eat more protein so I started doing that and just last week he measured in the 12th percentile. The dr said it could just be genetics because hubby and I were both small babies. Try upping your protein intake and see if it helps!
Good luck I know it is stressful.
  • I had the same problem my baby bump was measuring weeks off so they scheduled an ultrasound turns out I just could hide baby well he was really measuring a week ahead.. I wouldn't worry at all baby could be measuring totally different inside.
  • I had an ultrasound yesterday and the doctor told me my baby's stomach is too small.. I'm worried . With my first baby he was preemie but healthy.. I got sent to the specialist so hopefully they will tell me every thing is ok
  • Did your doctor say how far behind you are measuring?  My MWs have always told me that anything within 2 weeks in either direction is in the normal range.

I consistently measured 2 weeks behind with DD (one time even 3w) and 1 week behind with DS.  They were both born at 40w3d, DD weighed 7lb15oz and DS was 8lb12oz and the picture of perfect health.  When DD was born my MW said, "Nobody expected your baby to be this big!" and when DS was born my MW said, "That's a big baby!"  So it just goes to show you measuring behind can mean nothing.  But definitely follow your doctor's advice as you are doing, but I wouldn't be hitting the panic button or anything!
  • I had the same thing happen today. I am 30 weeks and the doctor used the tape measure to take my fundal height, said I was measuring a little behind, and I have to go in tomorrow for an ultrasound. I am trying not to worry too much, as all has been well up to this point and I am gaining weight at a good pace. My doctor said it is probably just the position baby was in. Keep us posted and I will let you know what happens tomorrow morning!
  • With my other 2 kids I measured small and at 34 and 35w got sent for u/s... where they discovered my kids were just the right size. Both of them were 8 pounds at birth! I swear it's because I have a tilted uterus, so it measures smaller when measuring fundal height.

  • I was concerned about my growth because I kept losing weight an weighed 117.6 at my 31 week plus appointment but my baby is good size. An she was a week behind before. I think she goes through growth spurts
  • At my ultrasound today baby was measuring right on track for 30 weeks, and fluid levels were perfect! The tape measure test seems to have so many variables, I think it is just unreliable. Hope you get good news at the ultrasound!
  • I have the same problem I'm 29 weeks n my baby is all behind in weight but is totally fine and I had to see a ultrasound specialist to make sure she healthy n fine. She explained all the possiblilty it may such as a chromosome missing, diabetes, or mommy just not consuming enough food. But everything was normal but I have to go see the ultrasound specialist every two weeks to monitor the baby n I weight.
