Vent (don't do this often)

my MIL is in my LAST nerve! I had my son, Emmett, 5/3 & like any mother I am over the moon & taking TONS of pictures. I posted this one on fb the other day & she called my husband squaking
"what's THAT CAT doing sleeping with MY BABY?!?!"
My in laws don't like cats & that's fine but my family is a pet loving house & he is my baby!

Re: Vent (don't do this often)

  • Aww. What a sweet pic! I have a kitty that looks a lot like that. Hope my baby and my kitties are fast friends like yours! You're doing good, momma!

That is the coolest picture ever. Your cat is huge!! So adorable!

Your MIL needs to chill out. He's not her baby, and I wouldn't tolerate her referring to your son as hers.....

Our son is due in July and will likely be having photo ops with our two cats, so you're in good company. :)
  • Awww I love cats and babies!

I had how many people tell me when I was pregnant with my daughter that I would have to get rid of my dogs and cats (2 of each). Of course no way in hell that was happening. My daughter is 2.5 now and healthy and happy! She loves all of our pets and they have never harmed her even though she gets a little rough at times.

And here is one with my cat, I couldn't imagine my life any different as I grew up with pets too, no way I'd put my daughter thru that either. Don't let anyone bully you into thinking that way.
  • Omg that is the sweetest picture ever! I had one relative actually tell me that it was true that cats steal baby's breath! Then later my MIL brought it up and was like "don't worry it's not true" as though it was something I really needed reassurance on!

I'll admit. As someone who didn't grow up with animals I have concerns about how things will go once baby is in the house with our cat. She's still a bit of a kitten and can be "wild" at times.

That being said, your MIL overreacted. Obviously is you were there to TAKE A PICTURE then you were also there making sure your baby was safe...So she needs to chill.
  • Aww what a cute picture!
  • That's a sweet picture what's wrong with her? It's not like the cats licking your baby's mouth or anything it's just cuddling
  • That is so cute!!! Delete/block her of ur Facebook it's none of her business
  • Thanks guys! & sorry to vent! I normally just let things roll off but I guess I'm feeling extra hormonal lately!
  • There are only three good uses for the Internet: cat pictures, anonymous venting, and porn. But I think it's best we just stick to the first two here...

I have 2 cats & I am hoping they become close to the baby as well . But my oldest sister told me the same thing to be careful with the cat that they suck babies oxygen. I think is ridiculous .. By the way that's a great pic :x
  • Oh good heavens! If cats could suck the breath from babies I wouldn't be alive (below is my picture to prove it lol)! Speaking from a snarky angle, I'd just keep posting pictures of the baby and cat, but speaking from a diplomatic side... I just would block her view of said pictures of cat and baby ☺️
  • My kitties will definitely be encouraged to cuddle with the baby. She seems to sooth when Eugene snuggles and purrs on the bump. My MIL never had cats, but I've got her on a very short lease right now and I doubt she'll do more than throw me the stink eye.

When my MIL inevitably calls my kid hers, I will flip. I agree, post more cat and baby pics! I want to know where that swaddler and mittens are from! They're adorable! My small dogs took the plush rattle my MIL bought my baby and she got all angry. DH and I were like, looks like a dog toy, kid will learn to share- she was horrified. Why can MILs be so annoying? The only thing I find offensive in your post/pic is the fact that your baby was born almost a week ago and mine won't come out :((
  • @daniellesiegel the mittens are Walmart, I think, & the swaddled is target!

& thanks everyone for the kind words! I since then have made that pic my profile pic LOL!

    & my mothers newest thing.....
She asked my husband how Emmett was eating & how often I feed. My husband said he is eating really well & I feed him every half and hour to every three hours depending on him. Her response: "oh, you're just free feeding?"

Yes, I intact and "free feeding my 5 day old...."
    Ugh!
  • Kids are less likely to get allergies if exposed to a little pet dander and hair. So tell her that to keep her off your back.
My mil is concerned about my bunny rabbit hurting the baby, the bunny wouldn't hurt a fly.

My first thought was "unless you're giving birth to a carrot I think your baby will be ok"
& I totally would have said that to my MIL
