Underweight..?

My 6 week old was 19in long & 6lbs 10 oz when he was born.. He is now 22in long & just under 8lbs.. Is this normal, I feel as if he is underweight..

Re: Underweight..?

  • What does his pediatrician say?
  • Loading the player...
  • He hasn't said anything about it.. He just says he's a "tiny little thing".

My little guy isn't gaining weight like he is supposed to but it's more important that he's not losing!!! He has a reflux problem so spits up a lot...so we are supplementing with formula to help....just do your best and keep an eye o it!
  • They're really just looking at the curve right now. As long as he's gaining, there's no need to be concerned. As my doctor said: two dots don't make a curve. Any gain is good. A full lb over birthweight seems like a good amount. My LO only gained 7 oz by her 1 month check (started at 8 lbs 9 oz and reached 9 lbs).
  • My girl was born the same weight she's now 11lbs at 7weeks she eats 4oz every four hours. Might have to wake baby up for extra feelings...
  • My lil guy was born the same weight - and I was initially concerned but with each appointment he was consistently gaining which has allayed my worries. Having gained more than a pound is good - as hard as it can be, try not to compare to other babies - your LO will have his own growth spurts and develop at his own pace. As pp mentioned, they're looking at the curve right now but so long as he is gaining and your pediatrician isn't concerned, I wouldn't be either. And think - they're only this little once!!! Enjoy this period when he's still a 'tiny lil thing'
