Hello! Intro and question

Hello ladies! Congrats to everyone who got their BFP. I am so excited to join you all.
I am 5 weeks 4 days with my first (due early Jan). So far am feeling pretty good...just minor symptoms (breast pain, bloating).
However, for the last 5 days I have had brown spotting, mostly when I wipe. The day I got my bfp, I had pinching cramps that lasted about 2 days, but have since gone away. The spotting is still there though. I was just wondering if any of you had experience with this? I am freaking myself out and my OB can't see me for another 2 weeks.

Thanks!

Re: Hello! Intro and question

  • Congrats on your BFP! I had brown spotting when I wiped for a few days prior to my missed period, but it has since gone away. From all I've read it's normal to spot light brown (it means old blood) and as long as it doesn't increase in frequency or become bright red, it's probably normal.  If you're really worried though, could you call your OB again and see if they can work you in, at least for your peace of mind?

  • Hi and congrats!

There have been a few post about this recently. For some, spotting in early pregnancy is normal. For example, with my first I had spotting everyday until 13 weeks and went on to a normal healthy full term delivery. For others, spotting can be a sign of starting to miscarry, placenta previa, incompetent cervix, and a bunch of other things. There is really no way to tell without seeing your doctor. Googling taught me that about 50% of people with early spotting have totally normal pregnancies.

Light spotting only when you wipe isn't too concerning. Bright red bleeding requiring a pad may be. Hope everything turns out ok! Good luck!
  • Congrats!
Hope your spotting stops and you have a healthy 9 months!
  • Thanks for the replies! I plan to take it easy and call my OB tomorrow to get some advice/reassurance.
  • I had brown spotting With my first born also..mainly when I wiped. Doctor said only time to worry if it's red! Brown is old blood! :) he was a healthy 9lb baby!
