How are you guys keeping cool?

so not sure about you guys but i live in a legitimate desert. i am not a fan of going to the beach and i hate being out in the hot humid weather. so heres something we can all talk about. how are you guys staying cool/going to stay cool once it gets warmer in your areas? its currently 22 degrees celsius (72 in fahrenheit) and after walking to the store im all sweaty and gross feeling. im dreading when it hits 40+ (104)

It hasn't been too bad where I live yet - mostly 60s, but my heat tolerance is pretty high, I prefer temps in the 80s. So far all I've needed to do is stay hydrated and keeping windows open and fans on. We do have central air for when it gets really bad but we prefer to keep it turned off to keep our electric bill down.

The summer when DS was born there was a 10 day stretch of 100+ degree days and a ridiculous amount of wildfires. I basically went from one air conditioned spot to another. Our AC (power) bill that month was out of control. I didn't care. I also wore a lot of tank tops around the house too.

So much water! Watched DH sort and haul cows and farm stuff today and I just drank tons of water from my liter pitcher!

It's getting into the 90's where I am and it feel like 100 being pregnant. I literally sweat in my sweaty work trailer, walking from building to building, etc. I was even at a meeting and my boss casually placed a tissue box next to me so I could wipe my face. So embarrassing. I don't do heat well normally so being pregnant I'm disgusting, essentially.

My last baby was born at the end of a very hot summer and we have no air conditioning. During the day I would sit with my feet in a cold foot bath. It was divine!

Lots of ice water and trying to stay in AC as much as possible, but beach days and swimming in my MIL's pool are awesome because they cool me down and are so relaxing! Swimming especially takes so much of the pressure off of my pelvis and leaves me feeling so light and free

I put a camping chair in a big white trash pool and sat there all summer drinking ice water while pregnant with DS.

Water water water...I like to add lemon, lime, or cucumber. It keeps it from getting boring and adds some additional benefits. I also use the excuse of needing to stay hydrated to eat frozen fruit bars like they are going out of style

@HayesRN13 Omg I eat so many frozen treats. Between popsicles and fruit and yogurt bars DH thinks I'm nuts! I had to splurge on some last minute maternity tees, tanks and shorts to get me through this month because all I had was long sleeves and jeans. Needless to say yesterday wearing shorts and a tank top felt awesome

I live in the Great White North so its only now beginning to get warmish (yesterday we almost hit 70°F). We don't even have central AC, only window units for certain rooms (which we used for a whole 3 random days last summer, its almost not even worth installing them at the beginning of summer). It usually is pretty breezy tho, so have windows open, curtains closed to keep the sun from beating in, and running the ceiling fans is enough. We also have a fan in our bedroom that is specifically made to fit in the window and either blow air in or out, or both (its dual sided, and one side can intake and another can exhaust, or set both sides the same). Other than that I chill in pj shorts and tank tops and drink a lot of water.

I'm in Toronto and although the winters are terrible the summers get Really hot. Luckily we have a pool and a house with AC. I don't do well in the crazy heat. I would eat freezies all day if they didn't start cutting the corners of my mouth after the 4th or 5th one.

I could never live in the south- I would roast and complain all day long, unless I was near water then I would be good.

I'm really heat tolerant, so I'm usually good as long as there's a fan running/breeze blowing. Our bedroom is partially below ground, so it/the downstairs in general stays a good 10 degrees cooler than the upstairs. It's rare I turn on the AC before June, even being down here in VA. What usually gets me first is the humidity here.

I literally carry around an ice pack with me. We have two of them, so I rotate through them throughout the day. They stay cold for up to 5 hours and are absolutely heavenly. Granted it's only 70-80 where I'm at, but that feels like the Saharah after moving from Alaska!

Thankfully we live in Washington now and the heat isn't bad, but I still get really hot (especially since they don't believe in AC in the houses...I'm a east coast girl, when I found out they don't use AC here it blew my mind! Lol) Anywhoos....we ended up buying a fan that sits on the floor and it works wonders!
As for when I'm out and about, my AC is always on in my car and iced water !!

yeah it gets ridiculous here. im really cold resistant where as the heat kills me. this is definitely a beach town as well and thats all the tourists do when they come in the summer time. of course growing older ive realized that i hate the way i look and because of the pregnancy i dont feel i can do much about it. so im not really up for going swimming. pretty soon though we are going to get a smallish pool to put on the patio for lounging in. and im always carrying a bottle of water thats half frozen. but it gets crazy humid here and a lot of locals refuse to use the oven in the summer. thanks for all these ideas! ill definitely use some of them.

It was 87 here today! Pretty darn hot feeling, and it gets super hot in the hospital I work at- I've been carrying around travel size baby powder and one of those little battery powered fans for when I'm at work! Otherwise I stay in the ac when I can! Super happy I don't have to go through the whole summer being pregnant! June is a perfect time!

It gets so hot here, and something about our apartment really collects heat throughout the day. We finally had to break down and get a portable A/C unit. If it's in your budget and/or if your place is really poorly ventilated like ours, it might be worth the couple of hundred dollars.

My dad's house is a little better ventilated though, and when we stay there, we have learned some tips and tricks that help a lot. Like in the morning, we open the curtains and windows and let all of the cool morning air in, and in the hotter noon-time we close all of the curtains and keep the sun from heating up the place. At night we'll close most of the windows and leave a couple open nearby to keep the cool breeze in. My dad will also dry his wet laundry in front of the fan, which helps with that dry heat.

Its been so hot here this week, in the mid 80's. Been sweating like crazy and I work indoors in the air even. My ankles have started to swell for the first time the whole pregnancy from it. Been trying to drink as much water as I can stand and keep reminding myself that June isn't to far away, thank goodness!

I love all these suggestions! I'm used to putting up with the heat, being in Phoenix, getting outside arly and getting out of town to escape as often as possible.

We've optimistically been hoping to travel up to the NW and visit family for a few weeks of my leave, because I dread the thought of being constantly cooped up in the house with the a/c cranking all summer.

So, If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll be carrying around ice packs and investing a kiddie pool

In good ole Oregon it's wont get hot until I after I give birth...then we only get about 2 weeks of really hot weather! But I like the kiddie pool idea!
