Boy name poll

I like the meanings of both (God is salvation and God heals). I want something that is familiar but feels somewhat ethnic (DH is Latino, I'm Middle Eastern) and easy to pronounce. DH loves Rafael/Raphael (haven't decided on spelling yet) and I'm leaning towards Isaiah.

Nick name for Rafael would be Raafi. For Isaiah I prefer it as is. I do like that Rafael is less common, but Isaiah seems to roll off the tongue more easily. Both have some spelling difficulties unfortunately.

Which do you think is better and why? If you have any other suggestion I'm open.

Thanks in advance! Please comment.

  • I like Isaiah only because Rafael makes me think of the ninja turtles...

    Both cute though!

  • Rafael by a mile!!! Isaiah is VERY religious sounding to me. I find Rafael a bit less " in your face"
  • I like Rafael. Archangel and all that.

  • I love Isaiah. I love biblical names. It sounds like a attractive persons name.
  • I like them both but Isaiah is too popular for my taste. I had a Rafael at my high school. He was the only one and I always liked his name.
  • Thanks for the feedback!
  • I'm torn between Isaiah and Ezra. so I naturally choose Isaiah.

Names with the same meaning are Joshua and Elisha (a male prophet) just for some other ideas!
  • Isaiah is really really common. I like the spelling "Raphael "
  • I also like the spelling of Raphael. I looked up on the Social Security website and it turns out Rafael is the more common spelling. Has been for a while. I just don't want him to have to correct people all the time. It is also the spanish spelling, so I think I am leaning towards that.
  • Oh i love that name my son name will be isaiah

Now that I think about it, the guy at my high school spelled it with an "h." He was the only Raphael i've ever known so I think the spelling doesn't matter as much because it's uncommon so people don't have as many preconceived notions about how it is supposed to be spelled. Just a thought...
