Diaper Sizing... Confusing!

Hi mamas!

So, I'm insanely confused on how the diaper sizing works.
We were at the store, wanting to buy our first few bags to have on hand for LO's arrival.
Some sizes are overlapping with the weights so I'm having a hard time understanding the differences between sizes 0, 1 & 2.
We were looking at Pamper's Premium Care (not a whole lot of selection in Qatar).

And... does anyone know a website that ships internationally for natural / organic products (ie. Honest Company)? Some of the sites I have found charge a ridiculous amount for shipping so I just can't justify it :(

Thank you!!

Unfortunately what I've come to conclude is that every baby is so different in regards to diaper needs: I've polled soooo many of my mom friends and every answer is so different. One friend said her 9 mo olds were still in size 1 diapers. Another said at 3-4 mo they switched to size 1. Ahh! It's all very confusing. You might need to wait and see what works for YOUR babe weight wise. It's frustrating though because I would like to stock up a little more now.

  • It really does depend on your baby. I have a 3 year old and still don't know what to buy for the new baby. Our first daughter wore 0 for a few months, 1 until about 7 months, 2 until about 14 months and 3 until she was 24 months and potty trained. So, I have no clue if the new baby will be the same. I doubt it.
  • Give iherb.com a shot. The shipped affordable to Asia. Don't know about Qatar they will have their own regulations about certain natural products

  • We used newborns for the first few weeks then size 1 for a few weeks. Size 2 few a couple months. By 6 months we were in 3's and by 1 year we were in 4's and have been there until potty training. Fifth time mom here. That's generally how it works for MY kids. But all babies are different. And weight limits over lap b/c every baby is shaped different. So my 6 month skinny baby may weigh only 14 lbs but need a Sz 3 diaper. Or my chunky but short torsoed 6 month may weigh 22 lbs. but still need a Sz 3. It really just depends on baby. Get one pack of each size to begin with. If you don't use them you can always return/exchange them.

Honestly, every brand is going to fit differently on your baby. It helps that they're all sized by weight, though. We just got a few travel sized packs for our son when he was born to see which brand would be the best fit for him.

I was told to stock up on all different sizes and types, but do not open them until you plan on using. Then when you figure out what works or if they our grow you can take them back and get what you need. I have no idea about diapers either and it scares me! I do know honest company ships monthly for around $79...experienced moms, is this a good deal?
  • I agree with @klkonwi and @mrs1374a it is best to wait and see what size your baby needs it all depends on how fast they grow-for example DD was 8lbs 11oz when she was born so she was out of newborn size almost immediately while other baby's might be able to fit in them for a couple weeks. I bought one package of new born one package of size 1 and I have a big box of size 2s because I know he'll be needing those at some point!
  • @amccoy129 zulily frequently has honest company sales. I got a voucher for a 1 month diaper and wipe bundle for $50. My mom and MIL also got vouchers, so I got 3 bundles for $150 instead of $240. I used 3 different email addresses, redeemed my vouchers, and then called and canceled the subscriptions on the 2 accounts I wasn't gonna use. It was very simple to cancel and customer service was great - they combined my 3 accounts no problem. I can push back my 2nd delivery if needed on the account I kept, and I can return unopened packs for different sizes.
  • NB and Size 0 are different? Or is it the same?

BTW, thank you for all of your responses. So far we have gotten 1 small pack of size 0 and 1 small pack of size 1.

  • DD was born at 5 lb 8 and came home at 4 lb 14. I think we did 1 pack of premie. She was in newborn (which I assume is your 0 but not sure) for a good month or more and then 1. For this guy, I bought 1 pack of 1. If he needs newborn they will give me a pack at the hospital and DH can pick up more. That's my plan.

  • DD wore newborn or 0 for two weeks or so and size 1 for a few months. After that each size fit around three months at a time. It depends on how hefty your little one is. DD was a chunk and moved up quicker than my friends daughter who is a week younger and has always been much smaller. DD would be in a 5 and she was still wearing 3's. That's why I'm NOT stocking up on diapers this time. Especially 0s, 1s, and 2s.
