Trouble TTC

Newbie here

Hi everyone,

Reluctant to post, but feel it's only fair if I'm reading everyone else's stories and struggles.

TTC for 17months now, had a recent scan and discovered slight PCOS (didn't come as too much of a surprise, cycle can be anything between 40 and 50 days long!).

Hospital couldn't offer any help apparently... Thank God for my GP who pushed and we're now on round two of 50mg clomid. We've no idea if it's working as hospital timed previous blood test wrong (follicle tracking not offered at this specific hospital). Should know in the next couple of weeks whether 50mg is doing the job.

Anyway, I've rambled enough!

  • Good luck. Did you try using OPKs?

  • Welcome to the board!   Have you had all of the other fertility tests though, for example sperm analysis?   Glad that you decided to join us!

Married for 7 years, TTC for 4 years
    dx:  Diminished Ovarian Reserve
    2 Clomid IUI's + 4 injectable IUI's= 5 BFNs and 1 mc

  • Haven't tried OPKs, wanted to keep things as "normal" as possible. Also, I do sometimes get signs that I'm ovulating just not always (although the Drs seem to think that's because I'm probably not ovulating watch cycle).

Sperm analysis was one of the first things and apparently that's ok- which is great. However, we're starting to doubt the results!
  • I highly recommend using OPK's though, since you have such long cycles.  You are only allowed 6 cycles of Clomid in your entire lifetime, and you don't want to waste one on poor timing.

I really hope that you can find a way to be monitored on Clomid!  PCOS + Clomid can result in too many eggs, which is why people with your dx in particular should be monitored.   Plus you could end up with cysts and a thinned lining which not only will prevent you from getting pregnant, but can threaten your fertility.

I'm not trying to scare you, but it's really important to take charge of the risks associated with fertility meds.

  • Thanks, will look into OPKs. Although, I don't think we're at risk of missed timing. It's a daily occurrence in our house so as not to miss a chance!

I am aware of the risks, however, follicle tracking is just not available for me. So all I can have is blood tests to check that ovulation is occurring.

Blood test back for day 21 today & still no ovulation. Maybe next week will be better.
