Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie Intro and Question re: BBT during the 2WW :)

Hey Ladies!

I have been lurking for a few months now and finally felt ready to jump in with my first post :)

My hubs and I are both 30 and TTC #1. I am a pediatrician and he works in business. I love science and snark, so I have thoroughly enjoyed lurking :)  I am just starting cycle 3 (today is CD1), so this is all still fairly new. I didn't know much about temping and OPKs and what-not before I started reading up on the bump, so thank you for all the amazing info you guys have already given me! I am definitely the type of person who likes to feel like I am doing "everything I can", so charting, using OPKs and temping have made me feel like I am somewhat in control of this crazy process and that has been a big comfort for me.

I have only been temping and off OCPs for two cycles, so even worrying about this might be ridiculously premature BUT I am a total type A person and worry about everything so here goes... My cycles have been 29 and then 30 days the past two cycles. I ovulated, based on OPKs, CM and temps with solid crosshairs on CD 18 both cycles. So I had an 11 day and then 12 day luteal phase. I stopped temping after I confirmed ovulation my first cycle (silly, I know, but I was traveling and a little overwhelmed). This past cycle, my temps raised beautifully after I ovulated but at 7 DPO, my temp plummeted below my cover line and stayed around there . I started having cramps around the same time, but I didn't get my period until 13 DPO. No spotting, no nothing until 13 DPO. So, my concern is that I might have an issue with my progesterone. BUT at the same time, I feel like if my progesterone dipped and caused my temps to dip, I should have gotten my period "early" and had a short luteal phase.

So, again, I know my cycle might still just be regulating itself post OCPs and I only have one full cycle of temps to go by, but does anyone else have their temps drop off mid luteal phase? Anyone chat with their OB/Gyn about it? It has on been two cycles, so I am not going to go running to my OB/Gyn yet, but I am just wondering if this is something I should be thinking about.

And because I have my period and I love Ryan Gosling...

  • Welcome! What kind of cramping was it? Slight, but noticeable because you're now charting and noticing everything, or full on period type cramps that need medicine for relief? Now that you are charting and paying more attention to your body, it could be something that's "normal" for you and not be an issue. I know I've noticed slight cramping more now that I'm paying attention to my cycle more consistently.

  • @jnnfrrose6 The cramps on 7 DPO were pretty consistent with what I get on the first few days of my period. I was pretty worried that I was actually going to start my period. However, they got better after that and were just intermittent and mild until today when my period started. Without my temps bottoming out, I wouldn't have thought much about it.

@everycol0r I am! The daily dose of babies at work is making me impatient ;)

  • Can you link your chart? The coverline is just a visual aid. Dipping below isn't an issue. Your luteal phase only ends when your period comes, not when your temp dips.

I need to be better about taking my temps earlier in my cycle :/

I know that your luteal phase doesn't end until your period comes but what I am worried about is that a falling temp so early in the luteal phase could be secondary to falling progesterone level, which may be due to an unhealthy corpus luteum. But I would assume that as long as my progesterone is high enough to keep me from getting my period until 13 DPO, it should be fine, no?

    I think I am overanalyzing...

Edited: Pressed send too soon. Rookie mistake.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I thought you meant that all your temps from 7dpo onward were below the coverline, but you only have one low one. Your high temps look really high in comparison to your others, but I'm sure it's fine.

Just try to be more consistent with taking it every day and at the same time.

Sorry, I misspoke (mistyped? :) ) in my original post. It started to fall on 7 DPO and was below the cover line a few days later.

I developed some cold symptoms a few DPO and I was traveling (so not sleeping as peacefully) and I'm wondering if that made them look even higher than they otherwise would have been. If they hadn't spiked so much higher, the lower temps at 7 DPO wouldn't seem so weird either.

Thanks for the advice! I am going to temp through my period this month just to make sure I get into a rhythm and we will see what happens this time around.
