Teething!

My daughter will be 10 weeks old on Wednesday. Today my mother put a glass up to her gums and there they were, two little teeth on her bottom set of gums, coming up already. I am so not ready for her to have them yet but I guess it's not up to me lol I'm exclusively breastfeeding her so I was wondering how other moms dealt with it. How old were your babies when they started teething? And did that stop you all from breastfeeding?

  • They'll probably be up by the time we go for her 4 month check up. She's not really fussy, but she does like to suck on her hand a lot or she'll try to bite on my shoulder sometimes too.

What are some things your kids did while they were teething? @dreyes4
  • My oldest got her two bottom teeth at 3 months and had 16 before her first birthday. I exclusively breastfed and never stopped. She was never a biter. So it wasn't bad at all. Her teeth never bothered her either. If she happened to bite me, I would remove her from my breast and wait a minute. I kept doing that until she realized that she would not get the boob until she stopped biting me lol. She learned pretty quick lol.
  • Thank you! Did it hurt if she ever did bite you? And as far as roving the breast goes, Idk. My little one gets on, and is nearly impossible to move if she's really hungry. @MeganPobega
  • I BFd through teeth. It's not a big deal at all, especially bottom teeth. Their tongue goes over those teeth while actively nursing. They may bite, because the pressure feels good while teething, but if they do, very gently press their face into your breast just for a second. They'll let go without you having to rip your nipple out. Eventually they will learn not to bite.

It doesn't hurt too bad. It's definitely worse once the top teeth come in. And it's only when they decide to bite. It shouldn't effect normal nursing unless there is an issue with the latch.
