Hi ladies! I have never posted before and decided to today after our 20 week u/s. We were initially told all was good. Then Dr called me at home where he said baby has a persistent right umbilical vein. Typically the right vein goes away and the left is persistent. Upon looking on the internet (I usually don't do that) I am having a hard time finding any info on this. Has anyone else had this or knows more about it? I'm trying not to panic too much as I wait 4 weeks to go in so baby can get an echo. Thanks!
Re: persistent right umbilical vein
We found out at 20 weeks that we have the same thing but no other markers. All our testing has been very low risk (min 1/11000 or better) and they confirmed the brain and heart all look great. I go back next week (week 23) for a followup but told me not to worry. 3 different docs and specialists reviewed our films and said there was no other marker that stood out that usually would if there was an issue.
A number of doctors have also told me that due to the advances in ultrasound tech they are picking up things like this that they normally would not have seen without really close inspection. Usually they see an issue somewhere else and then look for this. If it is the only thing on your scan, I've been told it's not worth stressing out about.
This is hard to do, I know. Best of luck! I haven't thought about it too much of late, but I know I will be nervous going in next week!
