The importance of burping!!

hi ladies,
I felt like I should share with you all how much burping helps our little guy sleep. If you are sleep deprived it may help you guys too! We were getting a couple burps at each feeding and he was screaming all day long and not sleeping much. I had a nurse come and consult with us and her mantra is "the more burps you get out, the more food you can get in and baby is more comfortable"... Our baby burps after every half ounce! He has gone from 8 bottles to 5 per day (more ounces in each bottle but same throughout the course of the day). Feedings do take a while but it's so worth it. He's no longer in pain from huge air bubbles and sleeping much more soundly. We sit him upright with his chin up and he burps on his own. It's really amazing! If they don't give you a good burp you can lay them down and try again. He also burps well on my shoulder with no pats and laying on my chest. Anyways I was wanting to help any of you out who may be having a similar issue.

  • Thanks! I will take your advice.

  • I know when my LO is uncomfortable due to being gassy as she fusses in her sleep. The problem is she won't wake up to burp despite my efforts to wake her up! If anyone has tips, let me know.

I'm no expert (FTM with a 3 week old) but I burp my baby while he is sleeping. He falls asleep during feeding and I just sit him up and burp him. He burps well despite being asleep.

The can burp while they sleep...
  • Agreed my hubby and I had the same issue and couldn't figure out why. Turns out a good burp makes all the difference! For not waking up I had a nurse suggest a cold wet wash cloth or tapping on the foot to help keep lo's awake.
