I'm sure I will get flamed for this, but I declined at my last appointment and will probably not be getting it. I am not by any means an anti-vaxxer, we follow the CDC schedule for our children, I get the flu shot every year pregnant/BFing or not, so I obviously see the importance in them. I am just still nervous about how new this recommendation is.
I just got the paper to look over at my appt today. I haven't had a chance to read or research this. Very curious on the opinions of having this shot. I have two weeks to decide.
I did. There was a fairly large pertussis outbreak in my area, so I would rather be safe than sorry. DH is also getting it, and I have asked my mom, a pulmonary nurse, to get a booster as well. I am also a public school teacher, so I come into contact with more germs than I care to think about in my daily life.
If you do get it, be warned that you'll probably be sore for a few days and you may have some swelling at the injection site and some body aches, both of which are totally normal and go away after a few days.
I opted to get it today after my glucose test because there was a recent outbreak in my area as well. My husband will also be getting his. I'm a critical care nurse and am exposed to so much and since it isn't live attenuated and many studies (cited in JAMA) have deemed it safe, I got it.
I was not planning on getting it and my doctor has not suggested I get it however we are moving to a different country when baby is 6 weeks old so I'm going to look up statistics and recent outbreaks there and make the most informed decision I can.

Yes. The studies are sound. Whooping cough can be deadly in infants and since they are not strong enough to "whoop" and often have atypical presentations, the scariest part is that they can simply stop breathing before anyone even realizes they are sick. Any family members and friends who want to be around the baby prior to his 2 month vaccines will also have to be vaccinated. Non-negotiable.
I got it too. It's been going around and this way baby gets some immunity until able to get protection himself. Also made family get one when we had our first. Just not worth the risk.
I just got mine (my arm still hurts two days later) but I considered it well worth any risk. There was a case at the school in which I worked right before I moved across the country and apparently we settled in an area that frequently has outbreaks. (go us!) So for me, it was a no-brainer when the doctor recommended I get it.
I have also asked my parents and in-laws to get it too, just to be safe, if they plan on watching our baby before he gets his own vaccinations.
