Complete Previa

Anyone have confirmed complete previa in third trimester? Had my US at 29 weeks and was told placenta is completely covering cervix. I was put on continued pelvic rest- but additionally told no exercise - not even walking. Anyone else had such strict rest??

Re: Complete Previa

  • Did they explain to you why this is? Your placenta is highly vascular meaning any kind of rip or destruction caused by sexual activity, over exertion, etc can damage the placenta and cause a hemorrhage putting both you and baby in jeopardy. I hope they also told you that you'll have to have a c-section since anatomically the baby can't come through the cervix because the placenta is in the way. They may even schedule you to deliver around 35-36 weeks. Listen to their instructions and report any frank, bright red vaginal bleeding to your doctor right away. Good luck to you!

Yes I'm lurking from June and have it as well. Pelvic rest completely. It's been a pain but I've gotten used to it by now lol. I'm 36 weeks now with a scheduled c-section at 38 because of it.
  • I haven't talked to doctor yet - just the nurse. I understand the risk, and required c section. I guess I'm just selfish, I love walking everyday and it is hard to believe that walking is to much exertion. My nurse said they can't legally schedule c section until 39 weeks unless medically necessary - is that a little late putting us at higher risk?

I am in the same boat....I have been on restrictions since 18 weeks and was pulled from work today to start my modified bed rest at home. I can still go out, but need to spend more time relaxing and not doing a lot of exercising and NO lifting. Where I live, they actually have what is called the Previa Protocol and it is an out patient program at our hospital. I started it today - so 1-2 times a week I have to go to the hospital to give blood so they always have a current sample of my blood for an exact match in case I need a transfusion due to a bleed during pregnancy or delivery.
If I have any bleeds then I will be admitted to the hospital right away and in there til my c-section at 38 weeks.

  • That sounds awful! It seems there is a wide range of treatment for previa! Do you have accreta as well?
