anyone else get dizzy/black out for a minute after standing?

every time i stand up, i get real light headed nd my vision dims out nd after a minute of standing still im ok. literally, every time i stand up, no matter how fast or slow i get up.

also on Sunday, it was happening over the course of a few hours while i was just sitting down at a restaurant. first nd only time that had happened.

i was going to call my dr just to notify swhat's been going on nd if there's anything else i should look for? anyone else deal/dealt with this before?

  • I've been experiencing this too. I saw that dizziness is a 2nd tri symptom. I'm really good at eating throughout the day and staying hydrated, so I really don't think it's that. I'll probably tell my midwife at my next appt, but I think it's normal!

  • i assumed it was normal, cos i do remember reading before it was a symptom. just really freaked me out when i was sitting there nd it kept happening in wave like forms.
  • Happened to me standing on the subway this morning. One minute I was fine, the next I was hot and dizzy and had spots in my vision. I had to squat down on the floor for several stops, until a seat opened up. I know I was overdressed--I forgot how warm it was supposed to be today, so I went out in a sweater and a light jacket--but I didn't feel hot at all until I was ready to pass out.

This used to happen to me - believe it or not- for y e a r s before I was finally diagnosed with very very low iron levels! Every. Single. Time. I'd get up, I'd have everything black out and be dizzy or lightheaded. And I was always tired and achey and had difficulty concentrating. And had personality changes!!! I thought i was going crazy. As soon as they gave me iron infusions, it stopped! So get your iron levels checked, as if you were on the lower side to start with, your iron may drop even at this stage of pregnancy.

Hope you all feel better soon!
  • I have been having a real hard time with dizziness. Last friday my blood pressure dropped and I passed out in front of all my students because I stood up too fast. Thank goodness there was another adult in the room... Needless to say, my husband had to pick me up from work and I slept most of the weekend.

    Really scary....
  • Low iron. I had the same thing with my last pregnancy and have been dealing with the same thing this time around too.

Sunday I was out to eat with family and my vision dimmed too and I just sat there pretending everything was fine even though I could hardly see to cut my food. I was so dizzy and my head felt a lot of pressure too.
  • It has been happening to me for about 3 weeks now! Went to my doctor about it and he diagnosed me with pre-syncope.  It happens if I get up too fast, if I am standing too long, and if I get really hot.  It was pretty scary the first few times but after I talked with my OB and he helped me figure out a few ways so it won't happen so often, I feel better!  The only good thing is you can feel it coming on so when I start to feel dizzy, he told me to lay down quickly on your LEFT side for about 10-15 minutes.  It has really helped me!

Hope y'all all feel better ladies!

  • This is due to low blood pressure. Drink lots of water!!

When you stand you bp normally drops a little then equalizes off and normally you wouldn't notice...however, 2nd tri your bp tends to drop and be on thr lower side anyway...so when that tiny drop happens on standing, it can cause dizziness, vision changes, and even nausea if it's low enough.
My advice that I give to my patients is to change positions slowly to give yourself time to adjust...and drink up!
  • ill have to get my iron levels checked, cos i was anemic before i was pregnant. assumed the prenatal pills would have helped an iron deficiency? idk. ill bring it up at my appointment nd see what they recommend
  • I ended up leaving my job 3 weeks ago because this got so bad. I worked in retail cosmetics and the fast pace, bending & getting up, the heat and close quarters completely ruined the first 4 months of my pregnancy. It hasn't been much of an issue since I left but I do notice if I get too hot, I start to become dizzy & black out.

I have it happen when not pregnant due to low blood pressure. Keeping hydrated helps a lot.
