TTC after 35

Introduction! Turning 38, and first time TTC

Hey y'all!
I've posted intros on a couple other boards, but I really appreciate the vibe on this board, so I wanted to say hello here.

I'm about to turn 38 (tomorrow!).  No kids.  I've got one furbaby-- a weird little mix of poodle, shih tzu, and muppet that I rescued from the pound.  I've also been married for just over a year, though I'm waiting for the Supreme Court to rule in a few months, and hopefully the state where I live will have to recognize my marriage at that point.

I'm not super conventional.  After spending a substantial portion of my twenties in a volatile not-so-awesome relationship, I turned single and ran a little wild.  It was great to date several people, float around, pay off my debts, travel, go to burns, and build a career, but none of that was really conducive to building a family.  I turned 35 and decided (with some grief) that I would have to give up on the idea of being a mom, since my lifestyle just didn't support it.

Anyway, a few months after turning 35, I met the woman who I would eventually marry.  Head over heels!  I settled down, bought a house, got a dog, and started to really court her.  We knew we wanted a family, but talked about it terms of adopting.  But over the holidays, we realized that we didn't know for sure whether we've hit the expiration date on my eggs, so we visited a fertility clinic, and here we are!

My blood work wasn't awesome.  I'm trying not to focus on it too much, but it suggests diminished ovarian reserve.  Doctor put me on some supplements for a couple months.  My first IUI was just done this past Thursday!  So now I'm waiting.

My feelings are all over the place!!!  And I'm so grateful to have found the message boards here, to get insight from other women, and know that I'm not the only person in word obsessing over sperm and eggs, ovulation, and counting things one day at a time.  It's just so nice to not feel alone in all this.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • Welcome.
I'm a little shocked that same sex marriage isn't recognized everywhere. It's sad.
    Happy birthday!!!!!
Just remember all you need is one good egg. It may take a few IUI's to get the one good egg so don't get discourages if it takes a few tries.

But from what you have told us you are doing everything you can to be successful.
    Good luck to you.

    All welcome

  • Welcome and good luck!

Thankfully more and more states are recognizing same sex marriage. I don't think the federal government will be able to hold out too much longer.

  • Thanks, y'all!

The US Supreme Court is hearing "the" case on same sex marriage tomorrow, and a decision is expected in late June.  I'll be on pins and needles the days we're expecting the decision, but most legal scholars (from all political persuasions) expect the ruling to be in favor of marriage equality.  So that's the timeline-- I'll know in late June whether or not we'll have to move to have our family recognized by the state.

And I'll know in 10 days whether I'm pregnant!

I am super excited about both!!  And doing everything I can embody patience-- which is not a thing that comes naturally, haha!

Welcome! I am in a similar boat. Married one year as of last week with no kids. About to turn 35 and ttc for 8 months. We have two fur babies ;) love the Muppet reference. Mine are pit bull/rescue/muppets. Lol! I have also found this board to be very friendly, unlike some of the others. Maybe because we are all over 30 and over drama? Idk. Sending you and your partner lots of love and luck during your journey. Its a roller coaster, isnt it? I find that TTC Has really tested me (No Pun intended) and made me more appreciative of my husband and what I DO have. I cry a lot, I'm sure all of us here do. But I'm finding that this journey is only going to make me a better mother. When our babies that we all wanted so badly hit the dreaded teen years, we will be so much more patient with them! Lots of love sent your way xo
I am 35 to DH for almost two years. Actively ttc #1 since October 2014. Charting, Clomid, HCH shots, Timed Intercourse.
DH SA looks great, my numbers look great... trying B6, Zinc, Vitamin C, you name it. Avid reader of TCOYF, FF junkie. Trying to keep the faith once cycle at a time.
  • Welcome and good luck on your journey!
