Preeclampsia

have any of you had preeclampsia? And if so what were your symptoms? I just feel like something is not right. I have my doctors appt on Tuesday. My nurse that comes to my house every other week said my blood pressure was a lot higher than normal too.. I'm just really worried!

Re: Preeclampsia

  • Watch for headaches, visual disturbances, pain in upper abdomen and sudden swelling of hands/face. Call your dr if you have any of these. (Not all, just any one symptom)

I had it last time. High risk of it again - so I have a BP monitor and test strips to check for protein in urine.

If you don't feel right, I would call your dr... They will check you and do a blood test. Hopefully it's nothing/ but you really don't want to muck about with pre-e - it's very serious

I agree with @sarahsairsair.. Also feeling light headed, seeing colors, and dizziness.

I've been getting awful headaches for like the past month where my vision gets realllly blurry and spotted, I keep getting random sharp pains in my ribs on one side, and my feet & hands just started swelling like maybe two weeks ago but it's usually worse in the morning. I'm super nauseas & throwing up again, and my hands and arms keep randomly getting tingly then going numb.... I really hope nothing's wrong though. I've already had an awful pregnancy.
  • My blood pressure also went to under 90 ( I've always had lower bp) to 116/60 in a week
  • You sound very concerned, so I think if nothing else, it will put your mind to rest by calling your DR/midwife

If there's nothing wrong - fantastic! (They aren't going to be mad at you for calling or anything)

If something is amiss you can get started getting treated and minimise the potential for a bad outcome
  • 116/60 is NOT high (even compared to what you normally run) but your other symptoms are a bit concerning. Do you have a home BP cuff? Take a series of BPs at rest about every 20 min or so over an hour or two if you do. Agree with other PPs. Watch for severe ankle/leg edema and rapid weight gain over the weekend. Try 1000mg Tylenol for the headache.

Normally they don't consider it preclampsia until the top number is at least 130. Doesn't mean that it couldn't be something else though or that it is worth getting checked out
  • Just checking how your going @hendS731 ?
  • You could also be anemic. I was feeling really similarly to that but my blood pressure was normal. I just always felt like I was going to pass out.
  • My cousin had her baby early because of her pre-eclampsia. She had MAJOR swelling to the point where fingers look like sausages and feet are nubs. Her BP got to 180 top number in the hospital. I'm pretty sure her swelling being sudden and severe was her major symptom. If concerned, get it checked out because it can get very serious.
  • I had pre e with my son, don't have it as of yet this pregnancy. I had high blood pressure, protein in my urine, and swelling. I was put on bed rest and was induced to deliver early because of it.
